Friday after work, Nick took me to get my nails done. He picked out the color and even asked for some cute gems for the ring fingers. Saturday morning, he told me that his friends Josh & Jordan who own @capturehappymedia were testing out new equipment for their YouTube channel, & that we should dress up a bit for the short hike we planned..

We drove up the Continental Divide and got to see the breathtaking west side of the Rocky Mountains - the fall colors were popping the entire drive up. It was magical. He led us up the side of a mountain, off a beaten path that he was clearly familiar with.

Once we got to the top, he said that a lot of people leave crosses and treasure boxes at the top of this mountain.. We took in the views from every angle, when he found a box and I walked over to him.

In this treasure box, there were hand written notes, dried flowers, & polaroid pictures. The first love note was from 1952, to Jan from her husband Rocky. I spent an awkward amount of time trying (and failing) to read the old-school cursive from Nick’s grandpa to his grandma. Nick, laughing, said “Why don’t we see what else is in the box?”

Under that, were letters written between Nick & I, going back to even our first month of dating; & the polaroids we took the day he asked me to be his girlfriend.

All of the sudden the man I love so dearly is down on one knee in front of me telling me that he wants to spend the rest of his life with me.

Spoiler...I said YES!! Both of us in pure joy (and shock) realized “oh my gosh; we’re FIANCÉS!!!” and started cracking up while popping a bottle of champagne that Nick snuck up the mountain.

Now, the location. The spot chosen for this moment is so special..This is the mountain Nick spread the ashes of the woman who loved him first, his Mom, Linda Haight, who passed away in 2014. The continental divide is also where Nick’s dad proposed to his mom.. And now, we are bringing our own sentiment & beautiful memory to this area of shared love.
