Things to Do
Though we don't live there now, Madison was where we first met and would love it if you experienced Madison for all it has to offer while here to celebrate with us!
Some of our many dates happened at some of these great events/places offered throughout the city.
Dane County Farmers' Market
This is where Geoff first met Austin's family! There is nothing better on a Saturday morning than walking through the farmers' market on at the Square - and we'll both be there the morning of our wedding! Wrapped around the Wisconsin State Capitol building, you don't want to miss Stella's warm spicy cheesy bread, fresh local produce, squeaky cheese curds, and beautiful artwork.
Memorial Union
This is where Austin first taught Geoff how to Polka dance (you better practice before the big day)! The Terrace at Memorial Union offers the best of Wisconsin: beers and brats on a lake! Check out Geoff's favorite and locally famous New Glarus' Spotted Cow beer, or Austin's late-life favorite Twisted Tea. Be ready to fight for your right to seating from crazed University of Wisconsin fans.
Madison BCycle
After Geoff went carless, the only way he could visit Austin each week was biking across town from the west side to the east side! Madison represents the best in sustainable transportation options, offering rentable e-bikes that go up to 17 mph (this is Austin's line, in case you couldn't tell). One of favorite activities was to bike around the city or around Lake Monona on one of Madison's many bike trails. With the e-bike, you don't even have to be particularly athletic to enjoy the scenery - including a beloved ice cream shop along the way!
Henry Vilas Zoo
Family fun and just a short drive from downtown! It's free and also has a carousel and playground (look out for those zoo monkey bars, they get rowdy)!
State Street Shopping
Take a stroll down State Street for local shops and restaurants, the main connection from Downtown Madison to UW-Madison's beautiful campus! For a quick bite, check out the local cheese shop, Paul's Pelmeni (Russian Dumplings), Ian's Pizza (try the mac n' cheese slice), and Danny's Pub (Austin and Geoff's first date)!
