Mitchell and BethAnnie met in 2019 while working together at Fareway Meat and Grocery Store. They began as casual friends, talking during shifts and hang-outs with his younger sister, Laurelle. Unbeknownst to him, BethAnnie harbored the world's most embarrassingly large crush for several months before they started dating in August of that year.

The Story of Us

They attended Beth's junior year Homecoming together, Gospel Hall conferences, and spent lots of Sunday afternoons together at the Brandt house.

Shortly into their relationship, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and their time spent together started to look a little different... lots of walks and time spent outdoors with friends.

Beth and Mitchell spent a large portion of their relationship long-distance while she attended Loras College in Dubuque from 2021-2024, and he remained in Cedar Rapids. They closed the distance through nightly phone calls—begrudgingly endured by Beth's roommate—weeknight visits, FaceTimes, a short-lived book club, and an ever-growing thread of Instagram Reels exchanged between the two. During visits, either up to Dubuque or back home to Cedar Rapids, they spent time hiking, going to Renaissance Fairs, hanging out with friends and family, and finding any excuse to dress up fancy.

For several months following her college graduation in Spring 2024, Beth and Mitchell continued their long-distance relationship as BethAnnie pursued a career at Kendall Hunt Publishing Company, also in Dubuque, IA. After an eventful summer spent apart, Mitchell proposed to BethAnnie on Saturday, November 2nd, 2024, at Palisades-Kepler State Park with the help of photographer (and sister-in-law), Rachel Hartman. The Palisades held a special place in both their hearts, as lovers of hiking and the outdoors. According to Mitchell, he had been planning to propose to Beth atop the Cedar River dam for several years. Lo and behold, she said yes!
