SEAFOOD

Eventide Oyster Co: tiny, amazing oyster bar with dozens of selections and great wines / cocktails.

Street and Co: fancy, seafood-based restaurant; make reservations.

Gilbert's Chowder House: fish and chips, lobster rolls, clams, etc; right on the water.

J's Oyster: similar to Gilbert's, classic seafood pub fare.


OTHER GOOD FOOD

Fore Street: a Portland institution, one of the best in the area; make reservations. (PRICEY)

Central Provisions: a new, fantastic small plate restaurant; doesn't take reservations, expect a wait. (PRICEY)

Petit Jacqueline: a great West End Bistro with authentic French fare.

Caiola's: cozy neighborhood Italian restaurant in the West End.

Piccolo: excellent southern Italian restaurant in the Old Port.

Hugo's: excellent, creative food; sister restaurants with Eventide. (PRICEY)

The Corner Room: really good Italian food downtown.

Grace: nice restaurant in an amazing, renovated old church. (PRICEY)

Flatbread: delicious brick oven pizzas, right on the water.


LUNCH

Aurora Provisions: good sandwiches from a little gourmet market.

El Rayo Taqueria: great Mexican food with outdoor seating (also Dinner

Duckfat: delicious sandwiches and salads; duckfat fries are a requirement (sit down, usually)

Otto's : really good, well-priced pizza on Congress St.

Bonobo: more really good pizza in the West End.

BARS

Novare Res: outdoor beer garden with 30 taps; solid food and outdoor games.

Sonny's: good cocktails, right downtown, old bank building.

Bull Feeny's: great Irish pub right down town.

Gritty's: brew pub, downtown.

Portland Hunt and Alpine: fancy, nordic cocktail bar.

LFK: hipster bar with great beers in the West End.

Arcadia National Bar: new bar/arcade on Preble St; play skeeball!

Standard Baking: fantastic bakery, worth a visit; excellent bread and yummy pastries

Gelato Fiasco: best Gelato this side of the Atlantic, GET THE SEA SALT CARAMEL

Aribica Coffee - Compact, welcoming coffee shop serving locally roasted beans & fresh-baked pastries. (2 Locations: Free St, Commercial St)
Aurora Provisions: one of the best cups of coffee I've had in Portland (and plenty of tasty treats here as well--sweet and savory).

Speckled Ax: excellent coffee shop, in house roasting

Tandem Coffee: excellent coffee shop, in house roasting (2 Locations: west end, bayside)
