Portland International Jetport
The best airport to fly into is the Portland International Jetport (PWM). It's serviced by:
American, Delta, Elite, Jet Blue, Southwest, and United Airlines
You can find flights on Kayak.com or GoogleFlights easily. (Make sure you've selected Portland, Maine--the better Portland of the two...)
Once here, you're just a short 10-minute cab ride to downtown Portland.
Staying in and around Portland...
Maine is the place to be! If you haven't experienced Maine in the summertime, you're in for a treat. However, because of its popularity, accommodations often book up well in advance, so we recommend you book your room/suite/home/campsite (Maine's got great campsites!) ASAP.
We've recommended a couple hotels in the heart of Downtown Portland, and a couple that are a little more price-friendly, just outside the city by The Maine Mall. It's about a 15min cab ride from the Maine Mall/Jetport Hotels, and many of them offer airport shuttles as well.

The Portland Transportation Center
Portland's Transportation Center is even closer to Downtown Portland than the airport--only a 5 minute cab ride away.
Amtrak's Downeaster comes right into the PTC five times a day from Boston's North Station. For tickets, you can also call 1-800-USA-RAIL.
And Concord Coach Lines has bus service from both NYC and Boston to Portland.
