Flying
Whitehorse contains an international airport, Erik Nielsen airport (YXY), that has several flights a day arriving from Vancouver, Edmonton and Calgary. It is serviced by Air Canada, Air North and WestJet. The airport has two car rental companies in it; Budget and Fox Rent-A-Car. It is close to downtown and very easy to get a cab.
Driving
There are two main highways used to get to Whitehorse. The Stewart Cassiar (Highway 37) and the Alaska Highway (Highway 97). The drive is beautiful but does have limited cell service and amenities. It is a 20 hour drive from Edmonton, 23 from Calgary and 24 from Vancouver.
The easiest way to get around the Yukon is by car. This allows you to get to the many different hikes and beautiful areas around the territory. We would recommend renting a car or sharing one with others in your party. There are also RV rental companies if you're wanting to camp during your trip.
Local car rental companies;
Budget Car rental 867-667-6200
Fox Rent a Car 867-668-2137
Driving Force 867-668-2137
If you’re not interested in renting a vehicle, downtown Whitehorse is quite compact and walkable. There are also taxis and a public bus system.
Driving
Either a rental vehicle or your own. Our home is a 40 minute drive from downtown Whitehorse. We are at 2706 NORTH Klondike Highway. Head north out of Whitehorse on the Alaska Highway, then turn right onto the North Klondike Highway. Drive 45km north, our farm is on the left side of the highway, just south of Fox Lake.
