Caitlyn and Maddy's Story

Our story began in a way we never could have expected—in the midst of a global pandemic. Like many others, we were adjusting to a new world where social distancing, masks, and virtual connections became the norm. But sometimes, life has a way of surprising you, and amidst the chaos, we found each other.

Caitlyn, a helicopter pilot with the Navy, was busy performing search and rescue missions in the Sierra Mountains. Between navigating rugged terrain and unpredictable weather, she was constantly on the move, focused on saving lives and helping others. Meanwhile, Maddy, who was working in healthcare during some of the most challenging days of the pandemic, was doing her best to support patients and colleagues in an environment full of uncertainty and pressure. Both of us were living in a world that felt unpredictable, but in our own ways, we were finding meaning and purpose in the midst of it all.

One evening, through a dating app fueled facetime call, our paths crossed—and the connection was instant. Despite the strange, distanced times, something about our conversation felt effortless and real. We laughed, shared stories, and connected in a way neither of us had expected.

Our love story continued to unfold against the backdrop of distance and military deployments, yet our bond continued to grow. Despite the physical separation caused by deployments and living apart, our relationship flourished through constant trips, mutual support, and a deep emotional connection. We made the most of the time apart, finding ways to stay close through snail emails, phone calls, and video chats.

Traveling in Cait's trusty van, they navigated winding roads and towering red rock formations, each stop revealing a new wonder. Each day on the road brought new memories, from starlit nights by the campfire to impromptu van dance parties, and their journey through Zion, Arches, Moab, and the Grand Canyon was a perfect blend of adventure, discovery, deep connection, and matching tattoos.

We had built a love strong enough to withstand the challenges of separation, and now it was time to build a life side by side. With excitement and a bit of nervousness, we moved in together, all the while planning our next move.

At the same time, Caitlyn made the courageous decision to leave the military, a choice that was both freeing and transformative. After years of service, she knew it was time to follow a new path—one that was rooted in the stability of home, the warmth of shared moments, and the chance to rediscover who she was outside the uniform. The decision wasn't easy, but Caitlyn felt a deep sense of self as she embraced this new chapter, knowing she was doing it for herself, and for the love they had built.

With Caitlyn leaving the military, she reinvented herself in ways she hadn’t expected. She explored new passions, found new purposes, and began to explore a life that was no longer defined by deployments or duty. The transition was a journey of self-discovery, but through it, Maddy was there, offering her unwavering support. Together, they found a new rhythm, one that embraced the joys of everyday life—walking Roxy & Rue, planning future adventures, and growing as individuals and partners.

Before settling into their new home together in Denver, Maddy and Caitlyn decided to take one last California must have adventure—one that had been on Maddy's bucket list for years: a trip to Hawaii. It was the perfect way to celebrate their journey, both as individuals and as a couple, before embarking on the next chapter of their lives.

Their Hawaiian adventure was more than just a vacation; it was a final chapter in the book of their past and a stepping stone into their future, reminding them that love, adventure, and the willingness to chase dreams together are what truly make a home.

After settling into Denver, Maddy and Caitlyn dove into exploring their new home state of Colorado, embracing the beauty and adventure it offered. Surrounded by the majestic Rocky Mountains, they spent weekends hiking the numerous trails that wind through the state, from the challenging summit hikes to the more relaxed walks through the foothills. Whether it was exploring the vibrant, ever-changing landscapes of Boulder or soaking in the views from Wash Park Lake, each outdoor adventure deepened their connection to the land and to each other.

In February of 2024, we took an epic trip hiking the W Trail in Patagonia, Chile. It was the adventure of a lifetime, filled with breathtaking landscapes, unforgettable moments, and the ultimate symbol of their love—a proposal that marked the beginning of our next chapter together.

The engagement, set against the backdrop of Patagonia’s awe-inspiring landscapes, was the perfect reflection of our journey—bold, adventurous, and filled with love. Their W Trail trek in Chile was more than just a hike; it was a milestone in their relationship, one that strengthened their bond and cemented their commitment to each other as they prepared to take on the world together, hand in hand. It was a reminder that love, much like the wild beauty of Patagonia, is powerful, enduring, and best experienced with someone who shares your heart.
