The Outer Banks are a string of barrier islands along the eastern coast of North Carolina.

While the islands are beautiful, they can be challenging to get to, so we've put together a list of accommodations and some important transportation facts below.

Please note that a 4x4 shuttle service will be provided to and from the venue on the wedding day (see "Q & A" page for details).

Corolla is very accessible by car, and will be less than a 10 hour drive for most of our guests.

If you are spending the week with us and would like the flexibility of having your own car, we strongly encourage you to drive.

The sand dune-lined Highway 12 runs 148 miles along the beautiful coast of the Outer Banks. And with so much to do from Corolla in the north all the way down to Hatteras in the south (where we got engaged), we know that many of our guests will enjoy having the their own vehicle to explore this breathtaking string of islands.

The Chesapeake is located on a 4x4 beach! Access to the venue requires four-wheel-drive vehicles (AWD vehicles are NOT sufficient) since there are no paved roads. Traveling to The Chesapeake is a very unique experience, with the opportunity to observe Corolla wild horses!

It is strongly encouraged that your tire pressure be decreased to ~18-20 psi, so be sure to purchase and pack this tire deflator set for airing down. You must air down in designated areas such as the gravel parking lot located at 1115 Ocean Trail Road.

When airing back up, there are free air-up stations located at the Historic Corolla Park (across from the Superwings), details found here. If your car cannot display each tire's individual pressure, check out this portable pressure indicator.

We recommend airing up each time you return to the paved road, however, if you are traveling short distances at slow speeds (below 30 mph) with minimal turns, you will likely be safe aired down.

Permits to drive on the beach are not required at this time.

If you don't have a 4x4 vehicle, here are a few additional options:

1) Parking before entering the beach access is available at the Twiddy & Co. Vacation Rentals parking lot for $7/day. Upon your arrival, our family and friends will be pre-designated to pick you up at the Twiddy parking lot.

2) There are 4x4 taxi services or 4x4 rental vehicle companies available for advanced booking (options listed below).

3) For those guests flying to a nearby airport and/or renting a car — if you are interested in driving on the beach and having your own transportation for the week, it would be best to request a 4x4 vehicle.
