If you have not been before, Shelter Island is a bit of a magic place with publicly accessible beaches and a town that is a bit frozen in time but charming with a couple of curated clothing boutiques. For interest, I've attached an historical guide with interesting tidbits about the island's history and settlement.
Our favorite things to do on the island are cycling, running, kayaking, hiking (Mashomac Parkis lovely in fall), shopping in town and grabbing sandwiches to eat outside the back of Marie's in the boat marina.
There is a fun public 9 hole golf course on the island for anyone interested in getting in a round. Shelter Island Country Club (aka, Goat Hill) is actually a lot of fun - if anyone is interested please let us know, we might be able to organize a wedding group round on Friday or Sunday morning!
If you cycle, bring your bike! Alternatively, the Pridwin has cruisers available or we can rent you a road bike for the weekend - please let Heather know. The island is wonderfully hilly and you can easily visit all of the beaches that way.
The Pridwin also has tennis courts, kayaks, paddle boards, and boat access available. You can arrange directly with the hotel main desk to take them out.
The Pridwin also has a pool which they promised to keep open and heated. If the weather is warm, bring your suit and use it!
The Pridwin will also have a billiard table for the weekend for those of you that have your own cues. Feel free to bring them!
Anyone bringing kids - there is an awesome toy store and general store in town on the island. Make these a stop! It's right next to Marie's where you can stop to eat.
Greenport is a great town with shops and restaurants we love. If you have time on the way, definitely make it a stop. Same with Sag Harbor, an incredible town with loads of shops where it's more likely than not you'll spot a celebrity these days.
