Please note that Shelter Island is only accessible by car ferry and they ONLY ACCEPT CASH! The ferries are quick and go back and forth regularly. If you go during daylight the views of Shelter Island and the surrounding area are stunning. There are two different ferries you can take, one from the South Fork (aka Hamptons, from East Hampton or Sag Harbor direction) or from the North Fork (aka Greenport/Orient):

- From Greenport on the North Fork, use the North Ferry. Rides are $15 one-way if you are not returning the same day, and $24 for a return ride. Schedule is attached: https://www.northferry.com/

- From Sag Harbor on the South Fork, use the South Ferry. $15 one way and $20 same day round trip. Ferries are frequent and quick - see website for first and last ferry times: https://www.southferry.com/

Getting there from JFK, the drive is about 2.25 hours. From NYC, about 3 hours. Let us know please if you have questions or need help with transport. We strongly advise bringing a car mostly so you can explore the area which will be full of farm stands and beauty given the fall season.
