Joey and Colleen met in 2017 at the end of their freshman year at Notre Dame and Saint Mary's. While they were both playing in the Commencement Band (Colleen playing drums and Joey playing tuba), they ended up going on an informal date in LaFortune Student Center (LaFun) with another drummer (who went on to be the Valedictorian). He bought Colleen and Joey some coffees (those who know Joey know he does NOT like coffee), and after a while, he left Colleen and Joey in LaFun, where they ended up sitting together for hours. Colleen very slyly asked for his number and asked him for recommendations for an upcoming trip to Boston to visit her friend, Natasha.

They continued to text all summer and got to know each other before they started dating at the beginning of Sophomore year. They spent the next three years of college hanging out with their friends, going to lots of dances and SYRs together, traveling on band trips, and making memories at their favorite places. Even though COVID cut their Senior year short, they got to spend many years making some amazing friends, who will stand by their side on their wedding day, and memories they will not forget.

After college, Joey moved to New York and Colleen moved to Boston, and they spent the next 4 years long distance, but got to see each other fairly often for lots of football games, weddings, and visits to their families.

Joey proposed to Colleen in the Boston Seaport on May 21st, 2023, the day after the Murphy girls went to the Taylor Swift Eras tour in the pouring rain. Needless to say, Colleen did not suspect a thing (evident by Colleen's Eras Tour nails on display in their engagement photos).

Colleen and Joey can't wait to begin this next chapter of their lives together by celebrating with loving family and friends by their side!
