Snow gently collapsed on the pine trees, creating a picturesque backdrop for a conversation that would, against all odds, lead to a friendship, a confession of love, a kiss, a marriage. This conversation was preceded with personal reservations from both parties - each having their own opinion against the other, but as they verbally jousted they began to warm up to each other. The preconceived notions were blurred in the face of charm, wit, and laughter. Megan left wanting more; Conor left unaware that his life would be forever changed.
In the fall of their Junior year, they collaborated to create a podcast designed to have interesting conversations with strangers. Together they celebrated the joys of success and faced the inevitable rejection. Both agreed that had it not been for the other, they would not have been able to achieve such great heights or burden such great lows. In the down time between podcast conversations (or on the days when no one came to talk at all), the two of them were unbothered because they filled the time getting to know each other through the philosophical, the meaningful, and the theoretical questions of life.
Conor, in pursuit to learn more about the woman he was discovering, made the bold move to ask her out on a date. Megan mournfully rejected him as she had committed to a year of singleness to seek after the Lord. Conor respectfully understood, but he knew deep down he wasn’t going to let her go that easy. He had met the one worth waiting for.
When her single year was coming to a close, she subtly (aka very bluntly) told Conor that she would be open to going on a date with him, if he would still have her. They ventured to El Aztecas and painfully pushed past the awkwardness of being the only ones seated at a restaurant at 3pm. The wait staff probably enjoyed witnessing the start of a beautiful relationship (they have a knack for spotting that sort of thing, I’m told).
Thankfully, they were able to laugh through the discomfort and continued on a second, even a third, date. On this third date came a profession of love and a request to pursue something greater together. They wanted to start a relationship that was much more than just two people gazing at each other; they wanted to focus upward and outward, hand in hand.
On the 11th of November, Conor devised an elaborate plan involving a classic bait and switch technique. Megan thought they were going on a double date with friends; Conor knew he was proposing. On the shoreline, just after sunset, when all of Megan’s suspicions had worn off, he got down on one knee and presented her with a ring, knowing full well that she is the greatest treasure of his life, and he is hers. They laughed and cried and danced on the beach (within the same minute) and in a very figurative way of speaking, haven’t stopped dancing since. So on August 31, we invite you to come join this beautiful, unpredictable, semi-impromptu dance.
