MTA: Subway and Buses

Picture of MTA: Subway and Buses

During this weekend we will be taking you on a few trains. You will be up close and personal with public transit. You can get anywhere in the area for $2.75 and never have to sit in traffic. You might even get a show... Don't be frightened of public transit! Millions of people take the subway and buses every day. This city is the way it is because of public transit.

Google Maps has been our best friend while discovering NYC. Just switch on Transit mode and you'll be able to click on subway stations and bus stops for upcoming train and bus times.

Be sure to set up your phone for seamless entry onto the subway and buses in New York. With OMNY, you can ride anywhere in the city for $2.75 with the tap of your phone. No sign-up or physical card necessary. Just simply tap and pay. And if you don't feel like setting up your phone for seamless entry, you can also tap-to-pay with any debit or credit card.

New York Penn Station

351 West 31st Street New York, NY 10001

AMTRAK: If you're traveling from the D.C., Baltimore, or Richmond areas, we highly recommend taking Amtrak for the easiest, greenest, and typically cheapest mode of travel... if you buy well ahead. If you are interested in taking this route, you should start looking as soon as possible! Book your Amtrak trip HERE and download the Amtrak App (Apple, Google) for ease while traveling.

ARRIVAL AT PENN STATION: After pulling into New York Penn Station, we recommend following signs pointing you toward 7th Avenue. From there, you'll have multiple options to get to the hotel easily and conveniently.

It's only a 17-minute walk from the 7th Avenue/33rd Street Exit to the hotel where you'll get to pass by landmarks such as the Herald Square Macys, Empire State Building, and the CVS Pharmacy at 420 5th Avenue.

Taking the Q32 Bus from just outside Penn Station is also a great option if the timing is convenient. Pick it up on 32nd Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. Take it up to Madison Av/E 37 St (be sure to push the button to notify the bus driver to stop!) where it'll drop you off 1 1/2 blocks from the hotel.

You can also take the 1, 2, or 3 Subway Lines (7th Avenue) up to Times Sq - 42 St where you can transfer to the 42nd Street Shuttle (S train) or the 7 Train, which will take you to Grand Central - 42 St, just a 3-4 block walk from the hotel.

And of course, if you just feel like getting to the hotel to kick up your feet as quickly as possible, we recommend picking up your Uber/Lyft across 7th Avenue on 32nd Street.

Newark Liberty International Airport

If you're arriving via Newark Airport, there are a few ways you can reach the hotel.

TRAIN: If you arrive at Terminals B or C, we highly recommend taking the AirTrain to the NJ TRANSIT train station at the airport. From here, you can jump on any NJ TRANSIT train heading toward New York. Just be sure to download the NJ TRANSIT App (Apple, Google) to buy your train tickets to New York Penn Station ahead of time. From here, you're only a short walk, bus ride, or rideshare away from the hotel. Be sure to read the New York Penn Station blurb for the best ways to deal with getting from the train platform to the hotel.

If you're arriving at Terminal A, you'll deal with a less convenient means of getting to the hotel. There is a 15-minute walk (or a sporadically arriving shuttle bus) to the AirTrain station which you could then take to the NJ TRANSIT station, but we wouldn't blame you at all for not wanting to put up with that. We would recommend ridesharing to Newark Penn Station and then taking a NJ TRANSIT train up to New York Penn Station. Fun Historical Fact: Both stations were built by the same rail company (shocker). Well, at least one of them...

UBER/LYFT: If the train timing doesn't work or you just had the flight from hell, we won't knock you for wanting to rideshare to the hotel. Just be aware, though, that ridesharing will likely cost you a pretty penny in this area (another shocker). Especially on the return trip, after the wedding.

LaGuardia Airport

If you're arriving via LaGuardia, there are a couple of ways you can reach the hotel.

PUBLIC TRANSIT: If you're arriving at Terminal B or Terminal C LaGuardia, look for signs directing you towards public transit. Take the Q70-SBS to Roosevelt AV/ 74 St and look for the 7 train at Jackson Hts - Roosevelt Av station. Take the 7 to Grand Central Terminal which will drop you off 3-4 blocks from the hotel. If you're arriving at Terminal A for whatever reason, just take rideshare, in all honesty.

RIDESHARE: Be sure to follow signs pointing you toward where the rideshare pickups are for each Terminal.

John F. Kennedy International Airport

Queens, NY 11430, USA

If you're arriving via JFK, there are a couple of ways you can reach the hotel.

PUBLIC TRANSIT: If you're arriving at JFK, look for signs that point you towards the closest AirTrain Station. After you reach the station, jump on the next available Jamaica-bound AirTrain JFK Red train. Fun Fact: Jamaica, Queens has no relation whatsoever to the country. Each Jamaica's name is from different Native origins! Back to the story...After you reach Jamaica, follow signs to the Long Island Rail Road Station and look for any train that is bound for Grand Central Terminal. Before you board, though, be sure to download the MTA TrainTime App (Apple, Google) to buy your rail tickets ahead of time. After you've reached the station, look for signs pointing you toward "Metro-North" and "NYC Subway" and eventually you'll reach the famous Main Concourse. From here, look for signs pointing you toward 42nd Street and you'll come out 3-4 blocks from the hotel.

RIDESHARE: Be sure to follow signs pointing you toward where the rideshare pickups are for each Terminal.
