For breakfast, grab coffee or a bagel sandwich at Uncommon Grounds (also a local favorite for remote work), or pastry from The Bread Basket (Kyle recommends the cinnamon roll). Saratoga’s Broadway Deli serves both breakfast and lunch. Dillon’s go-to is The Rachel, a Reuben style sandwich with turkey. For a sit-down option, Country Corner offers diner-style breakfast food.
For lunch and dinner, some of our favorites are Druther's Brewing (which also has a location overlooking Saratoga Lake, for those willing to travel a few miles), The Merc, Max London's, and The Local.
For drinks, try Cooperstown Distillery for New York-made spirits, or Hamlet and Ghost for cocktails in a speakeasy setting (reservations recommended).
Gardens, fountains, and natural springs make Congress Park the perfect setting for a fall walk, and it is conveniently located downtown in Saratoga Springs.
Congress Park is also the home of the Canfield Casino, now a history museum, which was a Gilded Age casino that hosted the likes of JP Morgan and the Vanderbilt families. Make sure to get a photo with the Native Dancer race horse statue (among the most famous horses to ever race at the Saratoga race track), located at the corner of Union and Circular.
Saratoga Spa State Park is a National Historic Landmark featuring classical architecture, an extensive trail system, and natural mineral springs throughout the park. It is a favorite destination for Kyle and Dillon to go on a run. Fall colors should be particularly beautiful at this time of year. Parking should be free.
While it may not be racing season, guests can still enjoy Saratoga's horse racing history by visiting the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. The museum is open most days from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., and admission is $20.
North Broadway's rebirth began slowly when Skidmore College acquired the vast, abandoned Woodlawn Park for its new home. North Broadway is again what its developers intended it to be: the most desirable and elegant residential neighborhood in the city.
The Tang Museum is part of Skidmore College located in Saratoga Springs. The Tang originates nearly all of its exhibitions and regularly involves Skidmore College faculty and students as curators and advisors for its signature interdisciplinary exhibitions.
This national park commemorates the Revolutionary War Battle of Saratoga, with views of the Hudson River and Green Mountains in Vermont. A road circles the park, with pull-off areas to learn about the history of the park and enjoy the views.
Saratoga Springs is located at the foot of the Adirondack Mountains. Several excellent hikes with spectacular views are located within an hour of Saratoga Springs. Some of Kyle and Dillon's favorites are Sleeping Beauty (with views of Lake George) and Hadley Mountain (with a large fire tower at the summit). Hikers should plan to arrive early, as fall is a popular hiking time and lots fill quickly.
Saratoga Apple is an orchard and farm market open 7 days a week, 12 months a year. They sell a wide variety of apples, peaches, plums, pears, cider, fresh baked goods, and produce. They also stock an assortment of local, natural, and healthy food and gifts. Apple cider donuts are made daily all year round.
Fans of Hamilton may enjoy checking out the family home of Eliza, Angelica, and Peggy Schuyler (Work!). The family home was built in 1777 and will reopen to tours in Spring 2024. There is a trail system that runs from the home along the Hudson River to the town of Schuylerville. Bound by Fate is an excellent brewery and restaurant for those who find themselves in the area.
