Mail needed collecting and some garden snails needed to die. Taylor was taking care of his grandparents' house while they were out of town. A note from his Grandma Lace told him to collect the mail from the neighbors. A girl answered the door. She had long blond hair and wore jeans that sparkled. And she was on the phone and her mother wasn't there, but oh, I guess the mail is over here somewhere. Back at his grandparent's, Taylor put down the mail. He reread the note. And then he saw it. Something about trees and snails needing to die. Now he had a reason to go back. He knocked on the door again and Kim, the girl's mother, invited him inside.
Ellen was home after a day of substitute teaching. She was on the phone with her best friend Tommy, talking about which of their friends would be which character if they were all from some fictional world. There was a knock at the door. So she opened it and put the phone to her shoulder and the neighbors' grandson was standing there asking about mail. He was tall, bearded, and his jeans were torn, and oh, I guess the mail is over here somewhere. The conversation with Tommy changed to the guy who had just been there, and soon her mom, Kim was home. Ellen heard a knock on the door and Kim welcome the neighbors' grandson inside.
