Our Wedding

Jose and Gabrielle met at Schoolcraft College while he was playing baseball and she was playing softball. Jose says Gabrielle caught his eye during workouts, but it was ultimately Gabrielle who made the first move and introduced herself. In a fun twist of fate, they both wore #16 for the Ocelots — a number that has held special meaning for them ever since, even inspiring their wedding date. They officially began dating on December 10, 2019, while still at Schoolcraft, and their connection only grew stronger from there. After graduating from Schoolcraft, they both continued their studies at Eastern Michigan University, where they lived just two floors apart for two years. They’ve been lucky to share life side by side ever since. Here’s to many more years of love, laughter, and #16!

Hailey met Gabrielle on December 27, 2000—the best Christmas present: a little sister! Hailey has truly been a day-one for Gabrielle.

“Hailey and you are so similar, yet so different,” said our high school athletic director—and no statement has ever rung more true. Hailey is my role model, my biggest supporter, and she pushes me every day to be a better person.

For a long time, I thought I was living in her shadow, but I’ve come to realize I was quietly thriving behind her, inspired by the way she lives her life. I wouldn’t want anyone else for a sister—or to stand by my side on my wedding day.

Hailey Genaw

Brenda is my younger sister—who also happens to have the best big brother. We’re often mistaken for twins, but obviously, I got the better looks (haha). Brenda has been my partner in crime since 2002. Even though she’s younger, Brendita has always been a great role model. She’s my first call when I need advice because she always listens with open ears and a kind heart.

One of my favorite memories with Brenda is when we found out our mom was pregnant with Jorge—she was very upset that she wasn’t getting a sister, but another brother instead. To this day, I still think she’s a little sour about it... but she’ll always love her hermanos.

Brenda Marroquin

Jorge is Jose’s younger brother, and he’s the definition of a comedian. From the moment I met him during the surprise trip to Guatemala in 2021, I knew we were going to be best friends. You can always count on Jorge for a laugh, a hug, a listening ear, and a helping hand in the kitchen. Not to mention—he’s got great dance moves that I’m sure will be on full display at our wedding. My favorite memories with Jorge are always in the kitchen, whether we’re making zucchini bread, pico de gallo, or corn casserole.Te quiero mucho, mi Jorgito.

Carlos (Nike) is my absolute best friend in the world— a second brother to me. We’ve been inseparable since playing baseball together from a young age in Guatemala. We moved to the United States together to play college baseball at Schoolcraft College—a true duo. Nike was always my catcher, which created a bond like no other. Anytime I spend time with him, I know I’m in for a great time. Gabrielle and Nike argue like siblings, but deep down, they have a soft spot for each other. I will forever cherish our friendship. Mi hermano por siempre.

Saturday morning before the wedding check out our favorite farmer’s market! Eastern Market is the city's oldest market and has tons of vendors from local farms and handmade goods. Be sure to stop at our favorite food vendor, The French Cow, and get some crepes. When in Eastern Market a must stop is Eastern Market Brewing Co. We also recommend walking across the pedestrian bridge to Gratiot Central Market which will lead you to Pietrzyk Pierogi for fresh, homemade Polish food. Location Change

Family &amp; friends, one week after sending our wedding invites, the church we were supposed to get married at informed us that their boiler had broken. This led them to close the church for the next several months because there is no running heat or water. This also pushed up their scheduled restoration starting now and lasting through the fall of 2026. Due to this series of unfortunate events, our wedding mass is being moved to their sister parish, Most Holy Trinity Church. This historic church is located in the Cork Town neighborhood of Detroit. The Parish has deep roots in Irish culture and, over time, has adopted a large Hispanic population. Truly a very fitting church for our wedding nuptials. We look forward to celebrating the sacrament of marriage with all of you. - Gabrielle &amp; Jose
