Where is the wedding?
The wedding retreat is being held at the Rock Creek Lake Group Campsite located on Rock Creek Road which is south of Mammoth Lakes in the Eastern Sierra.
GPS Coordinates: 37°27'13.4"N 118°44'20.7"W
Driving South on Highway 395, turn right onto Rock Creek Road. Stay on this road for 9 miles. The campground turnoff is on the left side of the road, immediately past the Rock Creek Lakes Resort. The group campground is clearly labeled with a US Forest Service campground sign. Keep driving until the road dead-ends in a small parking lot. Note: the wedding is being held at the GROUP campground (not the general Rock Creek campground on the other side of the lake). The group campsite is a short walk down a paved road at the end of the parking lot.
Where will we be staying?
Please see the "accommodations" tab for details. Limited tent sites are available at the reception location. Additional camping opportunities are within walking distance (requires separate reservations). Nearby cabins are available for rent and Mammoth Lakes and Bishop have extensive hotel options.
How high in elevation is the ceremony and reception?
The ceremony and reception will be held in the "high sierra". How high in elevation will we be?
The wedding is being held in the Little Lakes Valley at 10,000' above sea level. This is high elevation! Guests are encouraged to spend a night acclimatizing, before ascending to 10,000', if at all possible. Spending one night in Mammoth Lakes or Bishop should do the trick.
Symptoms of elevation sensitivity include headache, fatigue, dizziness and nausea- none of which you'll want to be worrying about during the wedding.
If you can't take extra time to acclimatize, talk to your doctor about getting a prescription for "diamox"- a popular medication that can help with altitude sickness.
Where will the ceremony be held?
The ceremony will be held on a granite outcropping off the Little Lakes Valley trail, which is a 2 mile drive from the reception site. The ceremony site requires a 1 mile round-trip hike over rocky, uneven terrain. Please take your time and wear appropriate footwear. Bring a camp chair, cushion or picnic blanket to sit on for the ceremony.
What is the wedding reception site like?
The wedding reception site is a private group campsite located on the shore of Rock Creek Lake. There is a short walk on a paved road from the parking lot to the site. There are primitive bathrooms on-site and running water, but no showers.
What should I bring?
At a minimum, all guests should bring the following:
- a comfortable camp chair to use at the reception site
- a cushion, picnic blanket, or light weight camp chair for the ceremony
- a metal or otherwise reusable cup
- headlamp or flashlight
- shoes that you can do a short hike in, to the ceremony site
- a warm jacket and extra layers for cold nights
- food and drinks for the duration of the weekend
In addition to these items, you may want to bring:
What is 'funky formal' atire?
Think of this as an opportunity to blend elegance with personal flair, creativity, and self-expression. It's all about embracing the unexpected, celebrating individuality, and adding a touch of funkiness to a traditionally formal event. Above all else, we want you to be comfortable, so please feel free to dress as you please. Wear shoes you can walk (and dance) in and bring warm layers.
