In Eastern North Carolina, whole hog BBQ is like a religion. Skylight Inn is a family run institution that has been around since 1947. They keep it simple by serving whole hog BBQ, with coleslaw and a large piece of dense cornbread. Their BBQ comes with signature pieces of crackling chopped up into it.

Greenville is a brewery town and while there are many downtown, Haley and Jeff's favorite one to visit is called Local Oak. Named after the live oak tree covering the outdoor seating area, it's a local hang out spot with good beer and good vibes. You can choose to hang out at a picnic table underneath the tree or pull up a chair to relax on the lawn. On Fridays and Saturdays they will have food trucks onsite for dinner (with cuisine ranging from BBQ to Hawaiian to pizza). Note: The brewery is 21+ after 7pm.

Villa Verde is a local Dominican restaurant. It was one of the first restaurants that Haley ate at when she moved to Greenville (and one of the first restaurants Haley and Jeff had a date at). They have everything ranging from mofongo (mashed green plantains typically served with a protein) to whole fried red snappers. We have never been disappointed with a meal from here!

If you are looking for a quick, simple, delicious, and inexpensive meal Habibis is it. Haley and Jeff went there for the first time to try out shawarma and absolutely loved it. We get the chicken shawarma wrap with the standard toppings plus spicy sauce. We recommend asking for extra garlic sauce for the fries.

Bagelman is one of our most recent favorite breakfast locations (Shout out to Kim for the recommendation). They serve a variety of bagels, sandwiches, baked goods, and breakfast options. Jeff likes to get the BLT on an egg bagel (add onions) and Haley likes to get the lox on a toasted sesame bagel.

If you are looking for a fancy night out, Ford and Shep is located in downtown Greenville. Haley likes to sit in the climate controlled garden section of the restaurant, it feels like dining in a greenhouse surrounded by plants. They have a rotating seasonal menu that ranges from asian inspired dishes to classic southern american food. They make some pretty good cocktails, too.

They do not have a website.
Brownie Bakery has some of the best doughnuts ever. Their glazed (Jeff's favorite) and cream puffs are the most popular, however Haley loves the jelly filled. They have an old school feel with pink bakery boxes, and if you read the reviews an old school owner (aka no nonsense and very passionate about his coffee). We recommend going early in the morning, as they do sell out.
