WHY IS KANSAS CITY IN MISSOURI AND NOT KANSAS?

Ah, the classic conundrum! Some may say because "There's too much city for one state." But, let’s break it down: Kansas City, Missouri, was founded in the 1830s, named for the nearby Kansas River and the Kansa tribe, before Kansas was even a state. It was incorporated as the City of Kansas in 1853 and renamed Kansas City in 1889. Meanwhile, Kansas wanted in on the action and created its own Kansas City to tap in on the Missouri side's success.

So to put it simply, Missouri claimed the name first, was already the cool kid on the block, making Kansas play catch up. Now, there are two Kansas Cities to spice things up and confuse most of America.

Just remember, when you’re heading to Kansas City, you’re going to Missouri. But if you end up in Kansas, you might find yourself asking, “Where's the city?” Enjoy the adventure, and don’t worry—everyone gets confused at least once!
