Q + A

Are our children welcome to attend the wedding and reception?

As much as we love your children, we kindly request they are not present for either ceremony or reception. We will be providing onsite childcare services so they can be close by for you to check on. Please reach out if you plan to use the provided childcare services or have more questions about it.

What should we wear to the wedding?

We ask for formal attire, men in dark suits + ties, women in bright long dresses. Please see this interest board for inspiration: https://pin.it/7lQS3GLVP (highlight and copy/paste in browser URL)

We need help with booking our flights and accomodation.

Please reach out to Francois and JD at The Travel Cafe for help with ALL things travel-related Email: jd@thetravelcafe.co.za

Should we stay in a hotel or Airbnb?

We have room blockings with different price points for you to choose from on the Travel tab of this site. If you are looking to book something different, including Airbnbs, please still use our travel agency as they will help you with your bookings jd@thetravelcafe.co.za

Who will be picking me up from the airport?

As everyone will be arriving from different countries, at different times, on different days, please arrange private transportation pick up with JD at The Travel Cafe as he will also have your accommodation information jd@thetravelcafe.co.za

There is so much to see and do in Cape Town, will we have time to do it all?

If it is your first time visiting Cape Town, we understand you want to make the most of this trip! We have arranged a whole week of activities before the wedding with The Travel Cafe, you can see these activities on the Travel tab. If you are looking to do things on your own, JD at The Travel Cafe can help build you a custom itinerary and book different excursions. Although, we did work hard to make the best itinerary for you all to enjoy!

Is Cape Town safe?

Yes, Cape Town is safe and very different from the rest of South Africa. With lots of tourists, it's absolutely stunning, clean, and has lots of kind people. But, like anywhere you travel to, you should always be aware of yourself and your surroundings, never go anywhere alone, and when taking Uber we recommend going in small groups if possible.

Are shots or vaccines required to enter into South Africa?

No, no COVID-19 vaccine is required or any type of shot.

Are there any direct flights from the states to South Africa?

The only direct flights are out of Atlanta, D.C., and Newark.

How long do you recommend we stay for?

Please refer to the homepage where we summarized what to expect from this wedding week as well as a recommended time frame. This can help you map out your time. But, for a trip this long, we highly recommend you stay at least 2 weeks and make the most out of what South Africa and other bordering countries have to offer!

We want to go on a safari! Where should we go?

Yes, we really hope you do! In South Africa, a safari is called a Game Drive. There are many places to experience a proper game reserve and game drives. The Eastern Cape, Western Cape, and Kruger National Park are all ideal places to experience this. Wendy, Jamie, and Richard will be going to a game reserve just after the wedding and are welcoming all guests who are interested in joining to come along. We have blocked the entire Game Reserve for our party, so if enough people come we could have the whole lodge to ourselves. If interested in going where they are, please reach out to Jamie. Otherwise, please reach out to JD and let him know how many days, your budget, and interests and they will help you book your safari experience!

I'm not comfortable driving on the other side of the road, if we don't want to rent a car, what are our options?

If you want to attend everything planned the week of the wedding, transportation will always be included and a rental car will not be necessary. We will also be providing transportation to the wedding venue and back. If you want to go somewhere on your own, there are Ubers in Cape Town you can use. If you want a rental car and feel comfortable driving on the other side of the road, feel free to use JD at The Travel Cafe to get that sorted and booked for you.

What is the weather like in February?

Hot! This is peak summer time and the weather is very similar to California. Hot without humidity. Cape Town is right on the ocean so there is always a coastal breeze. The wedding will be right on the ocean, so please bring a light jacket as it will cool down in the evening.

What type of plug do we need to pack?

Type M plug. Here is what I recommend straight from Amazon (copy and paste into your browser) https://rstyle.me/+W8AWpDH6jOUZIvpk4hp5Mw
