What is the Crested Butte weather like in June?
Weather up in the mountains can change quickly throughout 24 hours, so it is good to be prepared!
June is typically high 60s to low 80s during the day, but can get chilly at night (high 30s - mid 40s, the temperature swings are real). The occasional passing rain storm is not uncommon in the summer, but June is less prone to these that other summer months. We definitely recommend packing for warm days and cold nights. A jacket within reach is always a good idea up in CB.
Will the wedding be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony & cocktail hour will be outdoors. The reception will be under a large tent.
Is the wedding rain or shine?
Yes - we can shift to a fully covered option up on the mountain if a summer storm happens to pass through during the wedding.
What should I pack?
Good shoes are essential. The wedding venue topography is rocks, dirt, & grass so be prepared for uneven ground. The ceremony space is on pavers and the reception is on concrete, but everything in between can be a bit dodgy.
A jacket or coat for nighttime, active wear if you plan on hiking or biking, sunscreen/lip balm/lotion (CB is at 8,000 ft of elevation so the sun hits differently up there and it's very dry!), hats, aspirin or ibuprofen to help with altitude headaches, and all the usual essentials you would normally bring. Oh, and of course your favorite party outfit!
How is the altitude?
The altitude can be rough, but a little preparation can go a long way. The town of Crested Butte sits around 8,000 ft. The wedding venue will be even higher (over 9,000 ft.) since we'll be up on the mountain.
Here are some essential tips & tricks to make sure you are prepared for the altitude:
Ascend gradually. If you are driving then you are covered! If you are flying and are worried about the altitude change, consider flying to Denver first (5,000 ft. elevation) and staying for a day or two to help acclimate before driving the rest of the way to CB.
HYDRATE. Being properly hydrated before & during your trek up will help soooo much. Make sure you are drinking A LOT of water in the 2 weeks leading up to the wedding and while in CB. Seriously, bring a water bottle with you everywhere in CB!
Limit alcohol & heavy exercise for first 24-48 hours if you are having a hard time adjusting. Believe us, you will not need as much alcohol at this high of altitude to have the same effect :)
Ibuprofen or aspirin will help with high altitude sickness or headache. Sometimes we just take a dose the day we get there to help prevent a headache.
How will we get up to the wedding venue?
Ten Peaks is our venue up on the mountain. We will have shuttles running on a schedule to bring everyone up to the venue and back down at the end of the evening. Shuttles will leave and drop off at the ski Base Area (where the Vail owned hotels are located). We will send out shuttle pick up & drop off info the week of the wedding so no one is left behind. Do not plan on driving up to the venue. Shuttles will likely begin around 2pm and end at 11pm.
Will there be an open bar at the wedding?
Yes, party people - cocktail hour and the reception will have open bars. We're sure the bartenders always appreciate cash tips :)
