WHAT IS THE WEDDING SCHEDULE?

On Friday, June 13, 2025, the festivities kick off with a cocktail reception for our guests from 5:00pm to 5:45pm. Complimentary cocktails and appetizers will be served as well as live music by a steelpan player. At 5:45pm, we ask guests to proceed to the wedding ceremony at the beach directly behind the resort pool. The ceremony will start promptly at 6:00pm and last about 30-45 minutes. After the ceremony, guests are invited to the resort's garden for a reception starting at 7:00pm. The reception will include a buffet dinner, open bar, music, and dancing. The reception will end at 11:00pm.

WHAT IS THE DRESS CODE FOR THE WEDDING?

Beach Cocktail Attire MEN: classic long or shot-sleeve button-down and dressy pants. A colorful blazer or patterned sport coat for festivity is OPTIONAL. Appropriate footwear includes nice loafers and on-theme boat shoes. Linen shirts are acceptable. WOMEN: semi-formal dress, like a maxi or midi, as well as a jumpsuit or dressy separates. A beach cocktail dress code gives you the flexibility to choose a vibrant color or bold print. Finish your outfit with a low heel, wedge or dressy flats. Beachy accessories, like a raffia clutch, are also acceptable. Longer dresses or fitting dresses are recommended...it's windy!

Do we have to stay at the Hotel RIU Palace?

Yes. RIU requires that wedding guests stay at their all-inclusive resort.

HOW DO I GET THE BEST HOTEL RATE?

Join RIU Class, a free RIU rewards program, to receive discounts from 10-40% off regular rates. Check the website frequently as RIU Class runs special promotions periodically throughout the year. You can also make a room reservation now and then cancel and rebook if you notice a better promotion later.

IS RIU ALL-INCLUSIVE AND WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?

The RIU Palace is an all-inclusive resort, meaning that guests enjoy, unlimited and complimentary food and beverage, including "adult" beverages. The resort boasts a massive pool with a swim-up bar, a private beach with cabanas, an on-site casino, several on-site restaurants, a marketplace, and daily and nightly activities designed to enhance the guest experience. Each room comes with a mini-bar stocked with soda, water, beer, and liquor -- all complimentary with your package.

ARE PASSPORTS REQUIRED TO TRAVEL TO ARUBA?

Yes, you must have a valid passport to travel to Aruba. Aruba is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands and therefore requires passports for international travelers. The Kingdom of the Netherlands is responsible for the conduct of foreign affairs, including with the United States, and its embassies and consulates issue visas for travel to the island, although visas are not required for U.S. citizen tourists. WHAT IS THE CURRENCY OF ARUBA?

The currency of Aruba is the florin, denoted by the letters 'Afl.' , divided into 100 cents. It is also referred to as the guilder denoted by the letters 'Awg.' The rate of exchange with the US dollar is Afls 1.77.

WHERE IS ARUBA?

Aruba is in the southern Caribbean, located about 17 miles north of Venezuela. Non-stop flight time to Aruba is about 2.5 hours from Miami, 3.5 hours from Atlanta, 4.5 hours from New York City.

WHAT IS ARUBA KNOWN FOR?

Aruba is famous for its white sand beaches and turquoise waters. The island has a vibrant nightlife scene, casinos, and shopping. As part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, it has amazing Guoda cheese as well.

WHAT IS THE TIME ZONE IN ARUBA?

In June, the time zone is the same as Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

DO US CELLPHONES WORK IN ARUBA?

US cellphones will work in Aruba. However please keep in mind that if you retain your own US SIM card you may incur considerable roaming fees from your US cellphone company, you should call to see if they offer coverage in Aruba and what it would cost. Consider renting a cell phone or SIM card to use with your own cellphone if your cellphone company does not offer coverage in Aruba. Please also keep in mind that the voltage in Aruba can be as high as 127 volts, so you would need to make sure that your charger can handle this voltage. There are no area codes in Aruba, so just dial the phone number directly without any prefixes. To call the United States from Aruba dial "00" (international prefix to dial outside of Aruba), then dial "1" (international code for the U.S.). and then the area code and phone number you wish to connect to. Family Tip - Depending on your cell plan there may be an international day fee (AT&T is $10 per day) if you choose to activate. The hotel, and other places, will have Wifi so we typically just leave phones on airplane mode to avoid roaming/international charges.

WHAT IS THE LANGUAGE OF ARUBA?

The mother-tongue of Aruba is Papiamento. Being part of the kingdom of the Netherlands means that Dutch is an official language and widely spoken, with Papiamento being the commonly used language among locals. Most of the population of Aruba speaks fluent English as well.

WHAT ARE THE OPEN CONTAINER LAWS IN ARUBA?

Aruba has NO open container laws, which means you can openly carry alcoholic drinks anywhere on the streets and beaches of Aruba. Please note some beaches may prohibit glass bottles.

WHAT IS THE LEGAL DRINKING AGE IN ARUBA?

You must be at least 18 years old to consume alcohol in Aruba.

WHAT ARE THE LOCAL BEERS IN ARUBA?

Aruba has several breweries, but the most common local beers are BALASHI (Pilsner), CHILL (Pale Lager), MAGIC MANGO (Aurban Pale Ale), MAGIC ORANGE (Hazy Aruban Pale Ale). If you like beer, you MUST also try AMSTEL BRIGHT (similar to CHILL/CORONA). It is a Dutch beer imported to Aruba by the makers of Amstel, but what makes BRIGHT special is it is ONLY AVAILABLE IN ARUBA. You cannot find BRIGHT anywhere else. RIU will most likely carry Balashi, Chill and Bright -- try them all since it is an all-inclusive resort!
