If you are staying at the Grand, make sure to tell the dock workers in Mackinaw City and they will tag your luggage accordingly.
If you are flying into Pellston, you can take the Mackinaw Shuttle (link below) to the Shepler's Ferry Docks at Mackinaw City. You will need to make a reservation ahead of time. Round trip is $60/person; if you are arriving after 4pm local time, there is an additional $35 per reservation (not per person).
You can rent a car at the airport (Budget and Avis service PLN) and drive about 25 minutes to the ferry docks. If traveling to Pellston, be aware that there are limited flights in and out of the airport. When choosing your arrival and departure flights, make sure to check the ferry schedule from Shepler's as the ferries do not run 24 hours/day.
Most major airports and airlines fly into Detroit Metro Airport (DTW). From there, you can rent a car and drive to Shepler's Ferry in Mackinaw City, Michigan (556 E Central Ave, Mackinaw City, MI 49701). It's about a 4ish hour scenic drive from DTW to the ferry docks and you will have to park your car overnight for the time you're on Mackinac Island. Alternatively, you can drop your rental car at Pellston Regional Airport and take the Mackinaw Shuttle to the ferry docks. Both Budget and Avis service this location, I've linked Budget below.
