Steeped in history, this imposing Norman fortress is a rugged reminder of northern England's turbulent history. This was no baron's stately home, but rather a place where armies gathered and criminals were imprisoned and executed. Newcastle Castle consists of two buildings which are both open to the public to explore - the Black Gate and the Castle Keep - as well as offering some of the most spectacular views over the city and the River Tyne Newcastle has to offer. St James' Park is a football stadium in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. It is the home of Newcastle United. With a seating capacity of 52,350 seats, it is the 8th largest football stadium in England. St James' Park has been the home ground of Newcastle United F.C. since 1892 and has been used for football since 1880.

The Victoria Tunnel runs beneath the city of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne from the Town Moor down to the River Tyne and is now one of the must-see visitor attractions and heritage guided tours for visitors to NewcastleGateshead and locals alike. The entrance to the historic tunnel can now be found in Ouseburn, beside Hotel Du Vin. Victoria Tunnel was built in 1842 to transport coal from Leazes Main Colliery to riverside staithes (jetties) ready for loading onto ships. In 1939, it was converted into an air-raid shelter to protect hundreds of Newcastle citizens during World War II.
