What is the dress code?
This is a relaxed, backyard wedding. Cocktail attire is preferred. We anticipate temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius, so please dress accordingly.
What weather can I expect this time of year?
Kimberley is usually very warm and sunny in July! Expect highs of 25-30 degrees celsius, and warm evenings. Unfortunately, there is a risk of wildfire smoke in B.C. in the summer.
What should I pack for my trip?
Kimberley is an outdoorsy, laid-back town. Think: plaid, jean shorts and Birkenstocks. Pack plenty of workout gear if you plan to enjoy the outdoors, including running or hiking shoes. Trust us when we say, outside of wedding events, there is nowhere in town you need to get dressed up to go to! Don't forget your togs/ swimsuit. Travel adapters would be helpful - your hair dryer and straightener may not work here due to different voltage - check before you pack!
Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony and reception will primarily be outdoors.
What happens before and after the ceremony?
Guests are encouraged to arrive at 4:00pm to enjoy a cheeky cocktail or Prosecco and mingle before the ceremony begins at 4:30pm.
After the ceremony, the family will stay at the ceremony location to take photos. All other guests are encouraged to make their way to the reception venue for cocktail hour at this time.
What will your wedding day timeline look like?
4:00pm - Guests arrive at the ceremony location (our backyard) for a pre-wedding drink and mingle.
4:30pm - Ceremony begins.
5:00pm (ish) - Ceremony ends, family takes photos, the rest of the guests head to reception venue for cocktail hour.
5:15pm - Cocktail hour begins.
6:00pm - Newlyweds & family arrive, speeches during cocktail hour.
7:30pm - Dinner.
9:00pm- 1:00am - WE PARTY!
We're excited the ceremony is in your backyard! Can we check out the inside of your house?
We'd love to share our home with you, however our wedding day is not the day to do it! You will have access to the washroom/ toilet, however we ask that you don't go any further into the house - the bride and/or groom will be using those spaces to get ready!
Is there parking near the ceremony and reception venues?
Yes, there is plenty of street parking near Mackenzie & Josh's house, and a parking lot near Bohemian. However, Kimberley is very small and walkable! We encourage you to walk, take a shuttle, or take a taxi to the wedding - we want everyone to get home safely.
How far is the reception from the ceremony?
The reception venue is a 5-10 minute walk from the ceremony location. Maybe 15 minutes in heels ;)
How do I get around Kimberley?
There is not much public transit in Kimberley, so we recommend staying near the Platzl in town, or renting a car.
When booking flights, it may be more cost-effective to fly to Calgary and rent a car there. Calgary to Kimberley is one of the most beautiful four hour drives you'll ever do.
There are limited taxi options in town, so we recommend staying close to the reception venue in order to walk home after the party! We are looking into booking a shuttle to the ski hill area after the party. TBD!
Will the bride or groom be changing their name?
Not at this time.
Are there other wedding events I can attend?
Yes! Please join us for golf, wine tasting, a hike, a lunch, and a river float! All events are optional, but we'd love to see you there.
Do you have a gift registry?
Your presence is a the biggest gift we could ask for, especially if you're traveling from afar!
We are extremely lucky to have love, laughter, a house full of furniture, and a kitchen full of appliances. If you'd like to honour us with a gift, a cash gift would be welcome to go toward our honeymoon and home renovations.
Can I take photos during the ceremony?
We'd prefer you keep your phones away during our ceremony, so you can stay present. Don't worry, our amazing photographer will capture the moments!
Can I post photos from your wedding on social media?
Go for it! Just keep your phone away during the ceremony please.
Will you be live-streaming or recording your wedding?
It sounds crazy but... yes! We are going to try to live-stream or record our wedding so friends and family who can't make the journey can still celebrate with us. If you're not able to make it and would like a recording, let us know :)
Will there be an open bar?
Of course! Get your dancing shoes ready...
What type of food will be served at the wedding?
We will be serving Italian food - pizza, pasta, and all the good stuff. There will be vegan and gluten free options. Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions outside of this.
Will there be a wedding afterparty?
To be determined... but likely!
You have lots of events planned, yay! What will I need to pay for?
Great question! Of course we will be covering all costs/ food/ alcohol on our wedding day. Be our guests! If you'd like to attend any other events, you may have to pay any associated costs. The hike will be free! Wine tasting will be a self-guided tour, so you'll just need to pay for what you choose to drink. You will need to cover costs for your round of golf (& rentals if needed) if you choose to play, and cover your own lunch at Island Lake Lodge. We will supply some hair-of-the-dog beverages for the post-wedding river float, and will organize tube rentals for those who don't have their own tube - the rental fee will be $20 per tube. We'd recommend you pack snacks. Can't wait to see you out there!
