Cancun Airport
The Cancun Airport is not a large hub and tends to be very hot and humid. Once you get off the plane, move quickly to customs. We've traveled to Cancun airport many times and have experienced very easy customs processes and lines, but have also had a few challenging experiences.
Also, please disregard anyone trying to get your attention as you are walking through the airport to the exit. They are likely trying to sell you something like a timeshare or expensive ride to your hotel, so avoid engaging with them or just say No gracias.
Customs
When you are flying into Mexico, you will be given a customs form to fill that'll likely be provided by the flight attendants before you land (on rare occasions, you might have to fill it out at the Cancun Airport). Upon arrival, Mexican Customs will take part of the form and leave you with the remainder. PLEASE KEEP THE CUSTOMS FORM SAFE! You will need to provide it to your departing flight gate agent and there is now a fee if you lose it.
We HIGHLY suggest you download the Mobile Passport Control (MPC) app (must be 18+). This is where you can fill out your customs declaration form so that you can take advantage of the shorter, faster lines. You’ll fill out your Customs Declaration form directly on the app and go through an electronic passport machine. Once you get to the customs area, just look for “Mobile Passport Control” signs in Terminal 3. You’ll still need your passport, but this makes the customs process much simpler.
Airport Transportation
UNICO 20°87° Hotel Riviera Maya is located about one hour from the Cancun airport. Transportation to and from the resort can be handled directly with our travel agent. However, if you would like to find alternative transportation, please feel free to do so! There are tons taxi's and transportation services available but keep in mind it can get pricey. I would highly recommend going through our travel agency or booking other transportation ahead of time. Your taxi or shuttle driver will likely want to be tipped in American US Dollars ($2-5 per person is usually good)- don't forget!
Booking Your Flight
You are welcome to book flights through our travel agency, but you can also self-book flights if you prefer, especially if you have miles or credits you’d like to use. You'll typically find the most flight deals to Cancun between two and five months in advance of travel. The best way to find out about flight price drops is to sign up for cheap flight alerts on Google or other flight trackers. On average, the cheapest days to fly to Cancun are usually Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
How to Use a Flight Price Tracker to Get the Best Airfare Possible
Points can go a long way when it comes to flights! A general rule of thumb is that you want to get more than $0.01 per point. Here’s an example of a solid use of points. This Jetblue flight costs $263 for JetBlue BlueBasic (the most basic package), but that same flight in points only costs 16,800 JetBlue Points and you get JetBlue Blue (includes a free carry-on and seat selection). That means you’re getting 1.57 cents per point and you’re getting additional perks (I’d value this closer to 2 cents per point because of the upgrade) which is amazing! This would only cost you either 16,800 Chase Points or 21,000 Amex points! If you want more help with this, just text François!
