Things to Do

EAT!

Drink Coffee!

But only espresso after noon or the Italians will shun you. Shuuuuuun!

Pro tip #1: If you have the option to order coffee at the bar or sit down, choose standing at the bar. Sitting will always be more expensive. And we like fiscal responsibility!

Pro tip #2: This is more common in bigger cities like Rome, but typically you will order and pay for your coffee at the cash register, and then bring your receipt to the bar to get your coffee. Do not be like Kate in Rome and get shamed by the grouchy barista next to the Pantheon.

Book a Cooking Class!

Highly recommend the cooking class at La Tagliata in Positano!

But you better be ready to drink lots of wine and eat lots of salad.

And by salad I mean a fruit salad.

And by fruit salad I mean only grapes.

Okay you caught me, it's wine. It's just wine + wine.

If you're Zach, bring sunscreen. Actually if you're Zach bring sunscreen, a hat, 3 pairs of sunglasses, and yeah know what, just don't go out there. The sun is not your friend.

If you go before 2am, you will be very lonely and judged by the Italian DJs who are just then setting up for their set.

Don't be like that, we didn't invite nerds to the wedding.

Visit (or even stay!) in Amalfi [the town]

Picture of Visit (or even stay!) in Amalfi [the town]

The namesake of the Amalfi Coast, Amalfi is itself a very popular city, and the closest major city to our wedding venue. Amalfi is also unique on the coast for being relatively [key word "relatively"] flat compared to the majority of the mountainous coast, so if you want to prioritize walkability/explorability then Amalfi may be right for you. The bride and groom are staying in Amalfi during the week and moving up to Ravello for the wedding weekend, so if you come a bit early to Italy, please bop around with us! I'm sure we'll be doing super cool things like eating and drinking and getting very sunburned.

Pro: Lots of shops and restaurants to explore, downtown area is relatively flat, closest major city to wedding venue, good port if you want to take boats/ferries out to sea or to Capri Island. If you're into duomos (I mean, who isn't??) there's a neat-o one right in town.

Con: More touristy and crowded than Ravello, beach is less pretty than other cities (majority of waterfront is a large parking lot - much like the front of Zach and Kate's house in Lafayette), however there are some decent beach clubs. See our beach club list above.

Visit Praiano!

A cute small town next to Amalfi city known for having one of the most beautiful beaches on the Amalfi Coast.

It's chill, it's relaxing, no surprise there's great food, and it's excellent for people who really want to visit Positano but you don't want to be forced to sell your kidney to afford a hotel room.

Visit Positano!

If you haven't heard of Positano, where have you been? No seriously, this was the hottest vacation spot on Tik Tok the last 2 years running.

Probably the most famous city on the Amalfi Coast right now, Positano provides both a bustling city and a beautiful beach. With that though, you’ll find Positano to be the most expensive and most difficult to get in/out of. You will also find most of Positano to be quite mountainous, so exploring all the city has to offer means climbing lots of stairs. If you have questions about this, please ask Carolyn Ratner who did a mini Iron Man in 2023 trying to get back to her hotel.

Still, if you’re heart-set on exploring Positano during your stay, we just recommend you stay at a hotel/resort instead of an AirBnb as you’ll need help getting transportation to our wedding venue. It far.

Go to Capri

Picture of Go to Capri

If you have a free day, we highly recommend you check out Capri. Heck, if you're doing a longer trip, you can stay there for a few days! Capri is an island off the Amalfi Coast and I'd ballpark it's about a 45 minute ferry (depending on where you depart from). Capri has gorgeous beach club, cool caves to explore via a boat trip (Blue Grotto), and unsurprisingly amazing food. It also has bougie shopping so if you're looking to swag out in Dolce and Gabbana, this is the place for you. Lots of stairs here too but there is a cool funicular/chair life thing that will take you from the port to the shopping square at the top of the hill.

If you are looking for custom made sandals in Italy, this is a great place to do that.
