It's a Beautiful Day for a Gay Wedding: FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

We are so glad you will be celebrating our marriage with us! You might have a few questions about what the day is going to look like. That’s totally okay; every wedding is different! And whether this is your first gay wedding or your fiftieth (you’ve been to 50 gay weddings? How many gay people do you know?), here are some basic details about ours!

So who’s the groom?

Neither! We are both brides.

Are you changing your names?

No, we are keeping our last names. Both of us are published under our maiden names, so professionally we didn’t want to deal with the hassle. Plus, we both like our last names! After we get married, you can call us Mrs. Katie Bates and Mrs. Allison Brice. If you’re addressing something to both of us, we usually use ‘The Bates-Brice Household’, or just ‘Katie and Allison.’

Are you both wearing dresses?

That's a fun surprise ;)

What are your pronouns?

Thank you for checking! Katie and Allison both use she/her pronouns.

Who proposed to who?

We both proposed to each other, with full knowledge that it was about to happen (we’re terrible at keeping secrets).

Which one of you is throwing the bouquet?

We aren’t doing a bouquet toss, so the answer is neither.

Are you going to be legally married?

Yes, we are!

Alright, enough gay questions, let’s get to the important stuff – are the turtles going to be there?

Unfortunately, the infamous Brice family tortoises are going to stay home and safe in Tucson. Tortoises don’t like a lot of change (that’s what happens when you barely evolve for 30 million years!) They don’t even like being picked up, and the few times we’ve had to take them on car rides have been very distressing for them. The drama of a cross country trip would be too much for their tiny brains. However, never fear – our tortoise matriarch Clover has met Katie and given her blessing!

What about Frankie?

Katie and Allison’s cat, Frankenstein’s Monster, will also be hanging out at home. Frankie is very much an indoor cat who doesn’t like loud noises or too many people, so a wedding day would be very scary for him. We would love to have you over to our apartment, where Frankie is in his comfort zone and will happily sniff and boop you to your heart’s content!
