Do I need to practice my Spanish?

Claro! Although you should always practice your Spanish, Oaxaca is a very tourist friendly place accustomed to English speakers.

Should I book a hotel or Airbnb?

In our opinion, having tried both, the overall experience with a hotel is better. Hotels tend to include some form of coffee or breakfast, better security, concierge service, and a better location.

Are there Ubers or Lyfts?

No. Yellow cabs are the most reputable option in town. You can approach them or have a concierge order one for you. Be mindful that cabs usually only take cash, and its best to agree on a price before the ride. If staying in the city center, everything is walkable.

Does everyone wear white to the Calenda?

Yes. All guests should dress in white ONLY to the Calenda. For the wedding day itself, guest attire is formal and colorful.

What shoes should I wear?

Oaxaca is an old city and the majority of the streets are cobblestone. For the Calenda, we recommend wearing comfortable shoes as we will be parading in the streets. The route from the wedding ceremony to the party venue is not on cobblestone and is walkable in high-heels.

Are the events indoors or outdoors?

All of our event venues follow a typical Oaxacan design that features open patios with coverage.

What is the weather like?

In February daytime temperatures tend to be 80-90°F ( 26-32°C), whilst nighttime temperatures tend to be 50-60°F (10-15°C).

Do I need cash?

The vast majority of places accept credit cards. However, many local vendors only take cash. Tipping or offering payment in cash goes a long way. The main place we have withdrawn cash has been at the airport ATM's, although several major banks operate in the city center.

Where is the pharmacy?

The best pharmacy located near Oaxaca Centro is called Farmacias del Ahorro Alcalá.

Is the water safe?

As a general rule-of-thumb avoid drinking the tap water. Restaurants are used to tourists and use purified water as well as for ice.
