Technically, yes and no. Legally, it isn’t allowed, however, everyone does it. The best rule to abide by is: “Not in glass, and don’t be an ass”! Key West is a bird sanctuary, and all birds, including the chickens you will see (and hear) on the streets are federally protected. Please do not “mess with” or feed the chickens! $500 fines or possible jail time.

Local Notes…

In Key West, we are “One Human Family,” which is our city’s motto. Treat others as you wish to be treated! Remember that the “Coconut Telegraph” is a real thing, and word of mouth spreads like wildfire here. So, be kind and courteous to all service industry workers, tip appropriately, and please be patient…You are now on “island time”, and things move a little slower down here. Take time to stop and smell the sea air! Explore the charming streets of “Old Town”, take a tour, get out on the water, enjoy the fresh seafood and amazing sunsets!
