Our Wedding

Tom and Kristen first met at the original location for Comedy Key West- The Bottle Cap! Tom was headlining, Kristen was sat in the front row, and her friend heckled Tom all night. Afterwards, Kristen apologized and Tom couldn’t have been nicer about the situation, or funnier. Months later Joe Madaus reached out to Kristen, asking her if she could help Tom find a job, as he was considering moving to KW. Kristen, (impressed with Tom’s comedy) thought it would be fun to work alongside a comedian, and there just happened to be an opening at Blue Heaven for a bar back. Tom came in and interviewed with Mike MacKeown, a close friend of Kristen’s. As much as Kristen tried, Mike wasn’t sure about hiring a comedian to bar back at the busiest restaurant in town, so she took Mike to see his show at the Bottle Cap. (Having run into Tom days before the show, she told him getting the job looked doubtful, but she was trying). That night, while onstage, Tom noticed Mike in the audience. Having learned he may not get the job, Tom started to verbally tear into Mike, and Kristen sat there and thought… “I’m getting fired”. Turns out, Mike is a huge comedy fan and enjoyed the roast, but not before he could have a little fun himself. He called up Tom the next day, offered him the job to relocate ice, and had Tom start on Sunday…the busiest day of the week! Kristen fell for Tom’s ability to slice limes and carry half-filled buckets of ice. Once Tom left for Boston, they talked every day and she waited for him to return to KW. Soon after he moved back to the island, (permanently) they became a couple. Tom and Kristen immediately shared their love for travel, and began by visiting the Grand Canyon. Over the years their travels have taken them to Costa Rica, Bahamas, Scotland, (where they were engaged by a bird of prey named “Dougie”) Italy, and most recently, to Vietnam for her brother’s wedding. Leaving Vietnam they accomplished circumnavigating the globe from Thailand to Nepal, Dubai, Istanbul, Greece and Portugal…. Their love continues each day, as they work together at Comedy Key West, slinging jokes and beers. Whether the next adventure is here in Key West, or abroad on a foreign shore, Tom and Kristen celebrate finding love, a true partnership, a best friend and a place to call home in each others’ hearts. Lucy was the first friend Kristen made in KW. Working and living together, they became “The Real Housewives of Key West” and invented “SnapBack Sundays” at Blue Heaven. Lucy expanded Kristen’s world and their adventures have been endless.

What started as a tremendous dislike of each other based on first impressions, quickly grew into the strongest friendship imaginable. As roommates for nearly a decade, (in some states, they would be considered common law married) Tom and Alvin share a profound love and admiration for each other.

Becoming besties in middle school, their friendship has spanned time and distance. Chriss has given her 1,000 haircuts while Kristen sang show tunes on a toilet seat for years. They love the Chicago Bears, and hope they crush the Packers forever and always.

Tom first saw Dan at an Open Mic, and liked him immediately. Tom loves the way Dan’s carefree spirit and hilarious perspective almost disguise his intelligence and thoughtfulness.

Daria and Kristen share a secret language only they can understand, after many cocktails summoned it awake. They have a love for dark humor, film, art and festivities. And they are both giant nerds. But cool nerds.

Tom met Landry at the Great Canadian Laugh-Off, and knew they were kindred spirits when they both ducked-out of the T.V. taping to have a beer at the bar. The friendship that started with that beer, continues to this day, 15 years later.

Alena and Kristen have shared many adventures together on the water, and traveling abroad. Whether it’s playing Thundstruck, tickling lobsters or zip lining through a cloud forest-they always manage to have a great time.

Tom and Joe met in the Boston comedy scene, over two decades ago. Joe moved to Key West and Tom went on the road, but they maintained contact and eventually came together again, to build Comedy Key West!

Jill and Kristen’s friendship began watching a Rob Zombie film, and their love for horror flicks, adventure, and crazy Key West nights. After almost 10 years of friendship,  they also became roommates, bringing them closer than ever before.

Tom met Steve while performing at Comedy Key West, back when it first opened. As Tom’s youngest close friend, he admires his big heart, his enthusiasm for comedy and has dubbed Steve as, “The Hardest Working Man” in Key West.

Britannie and Kristen met at Blue Heaven, cruised the seas as cabin mates, and got matching tattoos to remind them there are few people who will ride a struggle bus with you, through thick and thin…although sometimes it’s fun to also drive the bus!

Even though they have known each other for 25 years, Tom and James didn’t become close until James moved to Key West. He became an integral part of Comedy Key West, and a great friend to both Tom and Kristen…when he’s not trying to “karate-chop” them.

A huge part of Tom’s life for the past 25 years, Joe’s one of the main reasons Tom ended up in Key West. Early in their friendship they visited Key West and created lasting memories that eventually drew Tom back to the island.

The most convenient way to travel to Key West, is flying directly here! Recently, the airport has been fully renovated, so expect a brand new experience if you haven’t traveled here in some time. *** If you’re flying out of Key West on your way home, be prepared for longer wait times going through security.

Flying to Miami International Airport and renting a car, or taking the Greyhound Bus down, are other options to consider! The drive/bus from Miami to Key West is between 3-5 hours long, with beautiful ocean views most of the way!

We recently discovered that taking the bus is our new favorite way to get to and from Miami. It’s air-conditioned, with WIFI, a toilet, plus comfortable seating with reclining chairs and huge windows to enjoy the island views along the way. The cost is low, around $33 per person depending if you pick your own seat. Enjoy the ride!

Greyhound Bus Stop: Miami Intermodal Center

Located in “New Town” at the top of Key West, on the Gulf of Mexico. Many of our friends and family have stayed here prior, and we recommend it as well! They offer free shuttles to Old Town, has a nice swimming pool and bar, plus a Starbucks. It’s a great hotel that meets all of your basic needs, and typically less expensive compared to “Old Town” prices.

Voted the prettiest hotel in Key West by the New York Times magazine, the Gardens Hotel offers a more romantic atmosphere. Tucked away in Old Town, it’s flush with tropical plants, orchids, birds, turtles and sculptures from around the world. They have a wine tasting room, a piano player, pool and bar…and just two blocks off Duval street!

The Reach holds a special place in Kristen’s heart, as her first job on the island was here. It’s a gorgeous property, with a soft sand beach, pier overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, great restaurant and bar on site, plus pool, lawn games and incredible views. Just a couple blocks down from the Southernmost Point of the continental U.S.A.!

Opal Key Resort and Marina is located just past Comedy Key West, heading towards the sunset. It is the closest hotel to our ceremony and reception! Opal Key offers stunning views, two pools, restaurant and bar onsite, and a “stone’s throw away” from Mallory Square!

There are many more options in Key West! From vacation home rentals, hidden B&B’s & guesthouses, plus tons of other hotels, these are just a fraction of the options available. We just selected a few we frequent often, and are familiar with their layout.

Located at the top of the key, on the Gulf of Mexico side of the island. Havana Cabana has one of the prettiest pools, waterfall and a hot tub in Key West! Beautiful grounds, and just a shuttle or short drive into “Old Town”. Budget-friendly too!!

The Saint is tucked away on Eaton Street in the heart of Old Town, just off Duval Street. It sits across from the Tropic Cinema, and offers a unique happy hour, craft cocktails and great food at the bar! There is a pool and sometimes live music can be enjoyed from their rooftop at night. If you are looking for a cute boutique hotel in the center of it all, this is the one for you.

We highly recommend Danger Charters for a day trip of snorkeling and kayaking, or the “Wind and Wine” sunset sail! Every trip is on one of their sailboats, so it’s a more intimate experience.

This conservatory is home to Rhett and Scarlett, (two famous flamingos) tropical birds, turtles, and of course, a magnitude of butterflies from all over the world. It feels like walking into “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with pathways, water features and tropical plants.

One of our favorite things to do in Key West is go kayaking through the mangroves and backcountry. We always go through Lazy Dog Adventures, out of Hurricane Hole. (Which is also a great place to have lunch and a drink after a day of paddling) typically, we see nurse sharks, birds, manatees and fish as we navigate through a mangrove forest.

Mallory Square’s “Sunset Celebration” is home to street performers, artists, food vendors and musicians each and every night!

The Hemingway Home tour has a lot of history, and a lot of laughs…and six-toed cats. If you do take a trip here to visit this legendary authors home, we recommend the guided tour. The stories they tell are extremely entertaining! (The cats are cute too).

Captain Jane Zegar owns and operates Salty Soul Charters, and is a close friend of Tom and Kristen. If you are looking for a sandbar trip, snorkeling or fishing-this is the charter for you!

This is the place where Tom and Kristen fell in love behind the bar! It’s one of the best dining experiences you will have on the island. From the tropical outdoor atmosphere, live music and great food, to the “mile high” key lime pie…it’s a must do in Key West! Breakfast: No reservations accepted. Dinner: Call for reservations.

Join us on Sunday for a post-wedding day at the beach! (Weather permitting). Ft. Zachery Taylor State Park is our favorite beach to unwind at, swim, snorkel, or explore the historic fort itself. There is a concession stand available, chair rentals, picnic benches and grills. Best way to get there is by bike or car. You can walk it, but it is quite the hike. We will try to post up at the far jetty, depending on picnic bench availability. 2:30pm until sunset. Bring your bathing suit, towels, snacks, sunscreen, floats-anything you wish to have for a day at the beach! Nothing is better after a night of partying like a dip in the ocean. Hope to see you there and let the celebration continue!

Post-Wedding Sunday Celebration!

For our ceremony and reception on August 1st, 2026 you must RSVP no later than March 31st, 2026.  If you RSVP “Unable to attend” we cannot make changes if you change your mind, and will not be able to accommodate your party.  Anyone who does not RSVP by March 31st 2026, will be considered as “Unable to attend”.   No need to RSVP for the “Sunday Funday” at Ft. Zachery Taylor. If we see you, we see you. We understand that some of you may come down with a case of “Keys Disease”, but we hope you feel better!
