So for months before the proposal happened all Kristen could talk about was being engaged and how amazing it would be (she wasn’t wrong)! I got the ring at Disney Springs in December but I wanted to ask her on a special occasion no matter how cliche it is because I knew she would love it! So I chose to do it on Valentines weekend! Valentines day was on a Sunday but I knew if I was going to have as much surprise as possible that I should just do it on that Saturday the 13th. I also decided to ask her outside in front of Hurst Hall because that is where I picked her up for our first date, so it was very sentimental to me and Kristen! That day I woke up early in Flowood so my parents and I could start blowing up balloons for the balloon posts. We were scrambling getting everything for the proposal ready and packed into the car. Once we got to Starkville my parents went to Hurst and I went straight to the hotel I was staying in to check in! I told Kristen to come meet me there early in the afternoon because we were going on a date to Tupelo to eat instead of staying in Starkville! This way she would be dressed and ready early because I wanted to ask her before we went to eat anywhere! When she got there I told her that I had to go pick up her Valentines gift from a shop real quick and then I would come back to pick her up to go eat! So I leave and head to Hurst where my parents and the photographer had everything set up with the balloons and the “Will You Marry Me?” banner. Once I knew everything was set and I was ready I texted Kristen that my car had broken down and I needed her to come pick me up! I had been prepping that all week telling her my car was acting weird so this didn’t catch her off guard too much! I sent her my location and that is probably where she realized what was going on! When she arrived and started walking up to me I could see that gorgeous smile and how excited she was! I took her by her hands and started my speech which I should have rehearsed more because I can’t remember a thing I said because of all the emotions running so high! The only thing I remember is saying her full name and asking the love of my life to marry me! She didn’t hesitate for too long and of course said yes and made me the happiest guy on earth! Afterwards that night I surprised her one more time and had our families meet in West Point to all eat and celebrate at Anthony’s! I think it finally hit her what was happening when she saw all of them there and she broke down crying tears of joy! It ended up being the most perfect day ever and something me and Kristen can always look back at as being one of the best days of our life! I feel like the luckiest guy in the world to be able to marry Kristen and I can’t wait for many more perfect days with her!
For the couple of months leading up to the big question, I had my suspicion that a proposal was going to happen soon. Although I had the idea that it was going to happen sometime in a few months, I still had no clue exactly when or how Trey was going to do it. Valentine's Day was coming up, but it was on a Sunday. Because of that, Trey decided to come up to Starkville on the 13th. That afternoon while Trey was making his way up to Starkville, I was getting dressed in my favorite outfit and made sure my makeup looked just right! I was sending pictures of my outfit to my future sis-in-law and was joking about how this might be the last day not wearing a ring. Her reaction to my pictures were less enthusiastic than I was expecting (she already knew it was happening that day) considering how energetic she is, but I didn't think much of it. Trey arrived in Starkville around 1:00, and he was acting so weird! We were hanging out when he told me he had to leave to get my Valentine's present. I thought it was strange that he had to get my present in Starkville, but I was suspecting that maybe he was going to our local florist since that's where he got me flowers for Valentine's Day the previous year. About 15 minutes after Trey left, I got a text from him saying that his car had broken down. This was also not surprising to me because he had been telling me how his car was acting up for a couple of days at this point. I texted him back asking to send me his location, and that I was on my way. When he sent his location he was for some reason in front of Hurst Hall. This was my freshman dorm that was a sentimental place for us and where we have some of our favorite memories. I started thinking, maybe he was trying to cut through campus? Maybe he wanted to ride by because he was feeling sentimental? It all started coming together, however, when I texted him saying that I was on my way, and he replied back with, "Great!" I thought, there's no way he is this happy about his car being broken down, something is definitely happening. Of course I had the idea that maybe he was proposing, but I thought that there was more of a chance he was doing something sweet for Valentine's. That was until I pulled up in front of Hurst. In front of the main doors to the dorm, I saw Trey holding flowers, two balloon posts, and a big banner hanging from the balcony reading "Will You Marry Me?" I got so excited that I lost all sense of self-awareness! Trey took me by my hands, walked me over in between the balloon posts, and started talking to me. Both of us still to this day don't remember what he said while proposing because we were filled with so many emotions! He then got down on one knee, and popped the question! We had a crowd watching who were cheering, and cars that were honking their horns for us! Afterwards, he took me to Anthony's Good Food in West Point, MS for dinner, and he surprised me with an engagement party with both our families! I felt like I was on cloud nine. When I saw our families and the beautiful decorations, that was when the tears starting flowing and I was realizing what all was happening. We celebrated with our families for the rest of the night, and it was everything I could've dreamed of!
