How We Met

We met at work back in 2012. Kristen had just come back of leave, and Curt came to have his pay fixed. Kristen thought nothing of it and continued on, until they ran into each other again in 2014 on HMCS Protecteur. Curt is employed as a Hull Technician in the RCN, and Kristen as a Resource Management Support Clerk.

Kristen was the junior pay clerk on board, and Curt came into her office to clear into the boat. It turned out, the chemistry between them was instant. As Kristen went through some of her old emails, she realized that she had helped him years earlier fix his pay issues. They soon started flirting through email, and eventually had their first date in Hawaii. Little did they know, they would soon go through the fire that would eventually end the Protecteur's life with the RCN. That event seemed to seal their fate for each other.

The Proposal

It was August of 2015, and we were just finishing up a visit with my daughter Jasmine, and her grandmother Yvonne. As it was their last night in Victoria before they flew back home, we went for a family walk to Hatley Castle. As Layla chased geese, Kamryn, Jasmine and Kayne went geo-cashing. Curt and I walked hand in hand up the path towards the castle.

He found a clearing, got down on one knee, in front of all of our children, and Yvonne (whom I consider a mother), and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. It was the easiest thing I have ever answered in my life! Unfortunately we still giggle about the fact that Curt was covered in goose poop after his proposal!
