Kyle and John met on May 23, 2021, a lazy Sunday in Pentagon City, after chatting on Tinder for just fifteen minutes.

Kyle had been in the U.S. for only one week when he walked from his apartment to Shake Shack in the sweltering D.C. heat. He was meeting a man he didn’t know, on what also happened to be his 27th birthday. That man arrived seven minutes late. What Kyle couldn’t have known was that John was frantically circling for parking, before sprinting to the meeting spot, and taking just a moment to catch his breath and wipe away the sweat.

That chance meeting turned into hours of conversation. From the very beginning both of them quietly wondered how it could feel so natural, so effortless, with someone they had only just met. They were moved to discover how deeply their hopes, dreams, and vision for their futures aligned.

In the four years that followed, Kyle and John grew together as a couple. That growth was not always easy, but through every challenge they built a love that proved enduring. They travelled near and far, met each other’s friends and families, and began to picture a shared future.

On June 10, 2025, John made that future official. A few weeks earlier, they had been invited to a magic show, and John saw the perfect opportunity. With the magician as his co-conspirator, Kyle was invited onstage to “help with a trick.” What he didn’t know was that John had a trick of his own. In a flash of stage magic, an engagement ring appeared out of thin air, and John dropped to one knee to ask the most important question of his life.
