While visiting, you will be closest to Charleston and Mount Pleasant. Both of these areas are filled with beautiful views of the water and rich South Carolina history. We have included some of our favorite spots in the lowcountry for you to enjoy while in town!
Want to try some of the best seafood in the lowcountry? Head to Downtown Charleston and try Hyman's seafood! This iconic spot has been a favorite of ours for years and enjoyed by many famous celebrities. Park at the Charleston Place Hotel and enter the restaurant right around the corner. You will be served complimentary hush puppies and the creamiest coleslaw. We recommend the fish of the day! This will be a hot spot so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to enjoy.
If you're looking for a beachfront restaurant, this is the spot for you! Located only a few blocks away from the Isle of Palms County Park, this is a lively spot for fresh seafood, drinks, and fun. Head to the top deck to experience the breathtaking views and enjoy some live music.
Kyra's family has loved Santi's for years and it's easy to see why. This restaurant serves up authentic Mexican food and margaritas that will keep you coming back each time you're in town. The restaurant has locations in both Charleston and Mount Pleasant with ample parking. We recommend the guacamole tostadas or enchiladas suizas!
Along oak tree lined Highway 61, you will find many plantations and gardens to explore. Magnolia Plantation and Gardens has colorful lush gardens, a wildlife center where you can meet many animals, miles of hiking and biking trails, and a guided slavery to freedom tour. They have many add on experiences such as the nature train pictured here, a Magnolia house tour, and more seasonal options. We would recommend purchasing tickets in advance!
Charleston is rich in history and fun! Here are just a few ideas to get you started. Take a walk down King Street and explore countless shops. Visit the market where local artisans sell their goods. Try a praline at River Street Sweets. Schedule a carriage tour and hear about the city's historic roots. Visit the pineapple fountain and let your children play in the nearby splash pad. Visit the South Carolina Aquarium or the new Black History museum. Drive by rainbow row and walk along the battery.
The nearest beach to our venue is Isle of Palms. It is both a residential and resort community with live music and beach volleyball at The Windjammer, ice cream and pizza along front beach, and families kicked back to enjoy it all. If you are looking for a place to stay on the beach, we would recommend vacation rentals here including the Wild Dunes Resort. The Isle of Palms county park includes parking, showers, and chair/umbrella rentals.
Sullivan's Island is a smaller chain of beaches nearest our wedding venue. Sullivan's Island does not have a county park but the entire beach is public. The best parking will be along the side of the road or near the elementary school. There are lots of delicious restaurants on the island. We would recommend a visit to Home Team BBQ or a stop at the Co-Op for a glass of frose.
Shem Creek is a lively place for amazing food, drinks, and fun times with friends! Enjoy gorgeous waterfront views of the Charleston harbor and surrounding marshes. Our favorite spots to eat and drink are Saltwater Cowboys, Vickery's, and Red's. We recommend the Palmetto Peach Tea at Saltwater Cowboy! To enjoy the view even closer, book a water adventure, or walk the boardwalk that spans over 3,000 feet long.
This is Kyra's favorite beach in the Charleston area. It is a bit of a drive from the other activities mentioned here, but well worth it! Check out the shops in Freshfields village, play a round of golf at the famous Kiawah Island Golf Resort, ride bikes along the marsh, or lounge on the beach. This is a quiet and exclusive community so there is only one public beach access point. Be sure to arrive early in the morning or later in the afternoon to ensure a parking spot at Kiawah's Beachwalker Park!
Kyra and David ate at Jim & Nicks before prom their senior year and have since made many trips back. If you want to get a taste of Carolina bbq while you're in town look no further. Enjoy complimentary cheesy biscuits, homemade sauces, and all of the delicious sides. Even the chicken tenders are amazing! Order a glass of sweet tea, finish with a cup of banana pudding, and enjoy the nearby Tanger Outlets.
