Q + A

What do I need to know about Iceland before I come?

Iceland is a Western, Nordic country of ~300,000 people with some of the most surreal landscapes on earth! Many parts of the island look like another planet. Expect to experience “midnight sun” while visiting because the sun only sets for a few hours in the summertime! The main languages are Icelandic and English. Their currency is the Icelandic Króna (ISK), which roughly equals $0.0073 USD. Please note that the electrical voltage is different, so you will need to use a Northern European converter and adapter to use any of their power outlets.

What is the dress code for the wedding? What should I wear?

Please prioritize comfort and warmth at all times! For the ceremony, we ask our guests wear casual attire with comfortable walking/hiking shoes (that you would be ok getting muddy) and jackets/warm coats. The key is to dress in layers that you can put on or take off as needed. The outfit you wear to the ceremony will be the outfit you tour waterfalls in that afternoon, so please choose comfort over style! For the reception that evening, the dress code is semi-formal. The reception will be indoors, so you do not need to worry about dressing as warmly. This is your opportunity to dress up. For the rehearsal dinner, please choose attire that is dressy casual.

How do I get from the airport to Reykjavik for the Group Bus Departure if I am not renting a car?

There are numerous buses that shuttle between Reykjavik and Keflavík International Airport. The cheapest way to get to and from the airport is with the public bus system referred to as "Strætó" (straeto.is/en). We also recommend FlyBus, which is quick and reliable and leaves the airport every 20 - 30 minutes. Prices start at ~$30 per person. You can book in advance via www.flybus.is and use promo code PINKICELAND for 10% off. There are also taxi options, which you can hail outside the airport. The cost for the 45 minute ride will vary depending on the time of day and number of passengers. The fare is metered and will usually cost around $150 for 1 - 4 passengers and around $215 for 5 - 8 passengers. Reykjavik is an extremely pedestrian-friendly city, so you will not need a car to get around once you arrive downtown.

What will the weather be like?

July is the peak of Iceland’s summer and is the warmest month. Expect the temperatures to be 50-60s during the day and chillier at night. It can be a windy, blustery place with rain showers moving through in a matter of minutes. Be sure to pack lots of layers, a raincoat/waterproof jacket, and outdoor/hiking shoes!

Will I be able to rely on Ubers/Ride Shares throughout the weekend?

Because Iceland is so rural, you cannot rely on Ubers or other ride share apps for transportation. We strongly encourage all guests book a taxi or another form of transportation ahead of time if needed.

Do I have to take the group bus transportation? Can I just do my own thing?

The group transportation is completely optional. We wanted to provide an option for those who did not want to have to worry about renting a car and driving in Iceland. If you are looking to explore more on your own, or don't want to join a particular activity, then either renting a car or scheduling a taxi ahead of time is a good idea. Please use this weekend as a launching point to see the rest of Iceland!

Is there somewhere I could store my luggage during the day in Reykjavik?

If you need somewhere to store your luggage for part of the day in Reykjavik, there are many Luggage Locker locations available throughout the city that are inexpensive, secure, and easy to access. You can search for different options at luggagelockers.is or "Luggage Storage Reykjavik" on Google Maps. If you are staying at a hotel in Reykjavik, your hotel should be able to hold your luggage past check-out.

Will I be able to see the Northern lights?

Unfortunately, no. The Northern Lights are only easily seen between September-April when dark and long nights have taken over from the bright summer nights in Iceland.
