A photo is worth a thousand words and like most modern love stories, this one started with a hot pink tutu on a hot summer day. The 2021 A2Zukey Relay had a few team categories, ranging from the fastest team to the best costumes. Naturally, Lauren Dillon, the captain of No Flocks Given, was in it to win it, and by it, I mean the best costumes award.

So the team threw on anything pink they could find and were surprised with a gift of hot pink tutus on the morning of the relay. Connor took off his shirt and threw on his tutu, unknowingly running his way into Liz’s heart!

Miraculously, Connor managed to play it cool when Liz messaged him, locking down a running date at Kensington Metro Park a few days later. Easy miles turned into easy conversation followed by croissants and exotic sparkling waters on a bench, with both leaving the date cautiously optimistic.

The next few weeks were full of adventures like a spooky kayak on the Detroit River, a flannel-fueled cider mill outing, Connor riding his bike around to cheer Liz on at strategic points during the Ann Arbor marathon, and a high-stakes Halloween party with each emulating their favorite Disney movie characters.

After a few weeks of neither of them experiencing the gotta goes and to avoid the awkward 'what are we?' conversation, Connor took a brave pill and asked Liz if he could be her boyfriend. You can guess the rest.
