Our Story

First date

These are the actual photos that we had on our Match profiles! We went on our first date on February 15th, 2019. The plan was to meet at El Patron, an excellent Mexican restaurant - with strong margaritas - for happy hour and then see how the night would go. Turns out, a snow storm was making its way through Kansas City that day and downtown businesses were shutting down early. We were both told to go home from work around 2 pm. We sent a few texts back and forth, discussing this predicament. Do we go home before everyone else is on the road and be safe? Or do meet up later and take a risk? Deciding what to do was a no brainer for Mark. Liz was concerned that the restaurant would be closed, due to weather. Mark said, Well, there's only one way to find out. See you at 2:15. We came, we met, we conquered that bottomless bowl of chips and salsa. We called it a night around 9pm.

This photo was taken in January 2020 - pretty much 2 months before the COVID lockdown. March 16th came and we were both told to start working from home. Mark brought a monitor over to Liz's house and started working from the dining room table...and never left. As soon as his lease was up in May, we made it official and he moved in with Liz.

Life started to get boring (ha!), so we decided to get two cats. Beaker and Bunsen became the latest addition to our household in June of 2023 and are the bestest buds. They just turned one on April 9th! If you want to follow along their journey, follow them on Instagram: @honeydew_and_associate

Engaged in November 2023

November 5th, 2023 was one of the last warm weekends in KC, so we decided to go to the Overland Park Arboretum to hike/walk the trails. After a while, we came upon a clearing that was near a prairie area. Liz went over to look at the map to see where we were, and later announced that she was getting hot, so she took a layer off and headed back to the picnic table where Mark was sitting. He, too, was getting warm, so he said "I'm going to take my sweatshirt off. Here, hold this." Liz reached out her hand, not knowing that he would place an engagement ring into it! She was so shocked that this was happening and was speechless (for once in her life!). Mark proposed and the rest is history!
