HISTORY
A short drive from Beaufort, Old Sheldon Church was originally known as Prince William's Parish Church and was built between 1745 and 1753. It was burned down by the British in 1779 during the Revolutionary War. In 1826, it was rebuilt only to be burned again by General Sherman in February 1865. Today, these gorgeous ruins are found amongst majestic oaks and scattered ancient graves, open to the public for viewing.
Beaufort National Cemetery is a United States National Cemetery, located on 33 acres in the heart of downtown Beaufort. Veterans from every conflict since the Civil War have been laid to rest here; the cemetery contains over than 18,500 graves.
