Invitation Questions
When is the RSVP deadline? Do I need to mail back my RSVP or can I do it online?
Please let us know if you will be attending our celebration by Monday, July 7th, 2025 so that we have ample time to get final numbers to our vendors.
We want to be reasonably environmentally-conscious, so we will be accepting RSVPs through our website and sent out a select few physical RSVPs with our invitations.
Due to needing to provide our final guest count to our vendors, we will assume that you will not be able to join us if we do not receive your response by the July 7 date.
Can I bring a plus one?
Unfortunately, we have a strict guest list to stay on budget. Our celebration is strictly RSVP only and will only be able to accommodate those listed on your wedding invitation.
Ceremony & Reception Questions
What's the dress code? Can I have an example of what that looks like?
The dress code for our wedding is semi-formal attire. That may look like mid-length dresses, separates, florals and other patterns, linens, sport jackets, and ties are optional. We are not requiring that guests wear any particular theme or color; however, we kindly ask everyone to refrain from wearing white, ivory, champagne, or cream-colored attire.
Here's an article breaking down what semi-formal means and what it can look like: theknot.com/content/what-to-wear-semi-formal
*Note: In case you don’t wish to accidentally match the bridal party, the bridesmaids will be wearing various shades of purple and groomsmen will be in gray suits.
Will the ceremony and reception be indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will be taking place outdoors on a bluff overlooking the James River. There is plenty of shade but it will be humid and buggy. The cocktail hour and reception will be indoors and have access to a small patio.
There will be a short walk on a dirt and gravel path to the ceremony site from the parking lot, so we recommend wearing wedges or shorter-heeled shoes and having a change of shoes for the reception. There will be plenty of shade at the bluff but we do recommend wearing sunscreen, sunhats, sunglasses and bug spray.
What's the parking situation at the ceremony and cocktail hour/reception space?
There is free parking available at Henricus Historical Park; there are 90 space total in the main parking lot and then roadside parking available outside the entrance gates.
There are limited free parking spots available at the Bolling Haxall House, but there is street parking available around the Bolling Haxall House as well as several parking garages within a few blocks radius of the reception venue.
Are the ceremony and reception locations accessible with mobility aids?
For those requiring mobility aids--such as a wheelchair or walker--there is an access road along the left side of the Henricus Historical Park site that leads to the bluff for easy drop offs. The management asks that individuals please first check in at the visitor's center (accessible via the parking lot) so they are aware someone is driving down the access road, and then to please park in the general parking area.
The Bolling Haxall House is ADA accessible.
What happens after the ceremony?
After the ceremony, the wedding party will take a few more additional photos. Guests are encouraged to either explore the ceremony site, or head back into the city and explore the area around the reception location. The approximately hour gap is also perfect opportunity for an outfit change and refresh before arriving to the 4PM cocktail hour at the Bolling Haxall House.
Guests who arrive to the Bolling Haxall House will be directed to wait outside until 4PM to allow for remaining set-up by vendors.
Will there be an open bar?
We will have an open bar offering a variety of beers, hard seltzers, and wines at both the cocktail hour and during the reception, and will be tended to by a licensed individual.
What time will your wedding reception end? Is there an after-party?
The reception will end at 10PM to allow for ample time to clean up the space. There will not be an afterparty, but there is still plenty to experience in Richmond during the nighttime--see our 'Things To Do' page!

General & Misc.
Am I allowed to take photos at your wedding?
We will be having an unplugged ceremony, speeches, special dances, and cake-cutting to allow all guests to see / enjoy the event and so our photographer can get the best possible shots without the interference of other flashes or phones.
Can I post wedding photos on social media?
We would prefer that our guests enjoy the experience with us and not worry about the best photos or captions, so please refrain from posting photos of our wedding until at least the following day.
Where are you registered?
We are very thankful you will be joining us for our celebration and so gifts are not required or expected. However, if you would like to honor us with a gift, a cash gift would be very welcome or a gift from our registry: theknot.com/seanmaeve/registry.
We will have a card box available at our reception and any items on the list can be shipped directly to our address.
What is your wedding hashtag?
We will not be using a hashtag.
Will there be meal options for guests with dietary restrictions or allergies?
Please indicate any dietary restrictions and/or allergies on your RSVP so we will relay that information to our caterer.
Food will be friendly for those with nut allergies and intolerances. We will include vegetarian-friendly hors d'oeuvres and meals as well.
Will you be live streaming your wedding?
We will not be live-streaming our ceremony or any activities that take place during the reception.
What will the weather be like in Richmond during early August?
The Richmond area is in a “humid subtropical” climate, meaning it is often hot and humid. Temperatures average in the upper 80s to low 90s, but humidity levels are high and can make it feel much warmer. There is a good chance of rain showers most days that do not last long, but we recommend bringing an umbrella.
What health and safety measures will be in place?
The health and safety of our family and friends is important to us! We encourage everyone to eat nutritious meals the day-of and to drink plenty of water / rehydrate leading up to, during, and following our event. We will have a cooler of bottled water available at the ceremony, but we encourage everyone to bring a reusable bottle. While there are trees surrounding the ceremony site and a slight breeze, please dress appropriately for hot, humid weather.
Additionally, we strongly encourage everyone attending to be up-to-date on their vaccinations—including the COVID series, flu, among others. If you or someone in your work / household becomes ill before you attend our wedding, we strongly encourage you to not attend–while we would greatly miss your presence, your and others’ health is significant.
Do you have any recommendations for where to eat, points of interest or things to do?
Yes! We recommend visiting the ‘Things to Do’ page of our wedding website, where we’ve compiled a number of fun things to visit in the area before or after our wedding.
