Kevin and Maya met online like most millennial couples these days. We both had recently moved to San Francisco looking to meet new people in the area. We first connected during February 2016, right when San Francisco was hosting Super Bowl 50. Fortunately for us both, Kevin was rooting against the Denver Broncos, one of Maya’s least favorite teams in the NFL. Although tragically the Broncos won that year, Kevin and Maya’s love story began from there talking trash on the Broncos at a local bar called Alchemist where they play animations of fairytale silhouettes to classic rock music. December 2017, after telling each other “I love you” and making plans to move in together, Kevin and Maya thought it would be a great idea to rescue a dog from one of the local shelters in San Francisco. We met a few dogs from a couple shelters but, when we finally met Chloe, it was love at first sight. This “little” puppy stole our hearts and we had to bring her home.

October 2018, Kevin and Maya officially moved into an apartment together in San Francisco. Chloe was pretty lonely without her best friend around all the time so we talked about adopting another dog to keep her company. While we were driving to Livermore to do some wine tasting, we ended up stopping at a local PetsSmart that happened to have a rescue from Fresno adopting out puppies. We fell in love with Chance and his big expressive brown eyes and brought him home that day. Chance and Chloe instantly connected like two long lost siblings and they haven’t been apart since.

October 2019, Kevin and Maya talked about moving somewhere that had a little more space than 720 square feet which was a little small for two people and two full grown dogs. After a lot of discussion, we decided to take the leap and look into buying our first house together. We fell in love with the East Richmond Heights area with the spectacular views of the rest of the Bay Area and all the nearby parks. We fortunately found an amazing house with a large backyard we could make into the backyard of our dreams.

April 2021, after buying our first house, fixing up the backyard and making it through the worst of the pandemic, Kevin and Maya decided there was plenty of room to rescue one more dog. Kevin has a love of Australian Shepherds so when Maya came across this tiny little puppy at the same rescue her family had rescued their dogs at years earlier, we were destined to have Cali join our family. We even picked Cali up on Maya’s birthday! Although Cali was a challenging puppy, this friendly little puppy melted all our hearts right away.

October 2022, Kevin and Maya decided to go wine tasting up in Healdsburg, one of Maya’s favorite places to wine taste! Our first stop was Quivira, a cute winery/farm with animals, gardens and amazing wine! A few years ago we stopped at this winery and fell in love with it so much we became members. After we did our member tasting which included a charcuterie board with different things from their garden, we went to walk through the garden which happened to be completely empty with no other people around. It was in the garden Kevin got down on one knee and asked Maya to marry him. And of course, Maya said yes!
