Megan and Matt met in September of 2020. Adhering to appropriate covid guidelines (like the good rule followers they are...or at least Megan is...) they shared their first date outside at the beautiful Causeway in Colchester, Vermont. The date was planned to last only a couple of hours, but six hours later the two were smitten and couldn't get enough of each other. Matt moved from Boston to Burlington that fall so the two could spend time growing their relationship. They spent many sunny days and starry nights at the Doherty's family camp in Malletts Bay and almost 100 snowy days on the slopes at Sugarbush Mountain. The best choice to-date was Matt's "spontaneous" decision to adopt a puppy in March of 2021. Thank goodness for the genius minds behind Petfinder because they united us with our most beloved, sweet pup, Ellen (named after Sugarbush Mountain's peak, Mount Ellen). In the Fall of 2021, Megan moved Matt back to Boston when she began her graduate school program at Tufts University. Matt, Ellen, and Megan settled into South Boston spending quality time with friends and family close by, exploring the city's finest, and of course working hard. Slightly fueled by impulse and mostly fueled by love, the couple bought their first home in Hopkinton, New Hampshire in June of 2022. Ellen's dreams came true when she discovered the vast lawn, adjusting quickly to her suburban lifestyle. Since moving to NH, Matt and Megan have enjoyed racing on Pats Peak's beer-league ski team, hosting Thanksgiving, and exploring the area's taverns and trails. Matt pulled off the biggest surprise of all when he proposed to Megan at Waterfront Park on Lake Champlain in June of 2023. Like the incredibly dreamy man he is, Matt made sure the proposal was intimate and thoughtful. He coordinated with immediate family and ensured they were hiding nearby to celebrate with the couple after Megan said, "yes!". That brings us here, today! We are so excited to celebrate with you at our picturesque venue located in Grand Isle, Vermont on September 28th, 2024. Please review the website for more details.

The hotel has views of Lake Champlain and less than a 10 minute walk to the lake's waterfront. There is ample parking available for guests of our wedding (both those staying at the hotel and those staying elsewhere). We do have a room block for the wedding, so consider using that when booking at the Doubletree. Stay here if you would like to be outside of Burlington. This option is right off of Interstate 89 (I-89), and allows pets (for an additional fee.) Colchester is ~15 minutes from Burlington and about 25 minutes from the venue. This is a great option for folks who want suites or bigger room options. Please note: transportation from this location will not be provided to and from the venue by the bride and groom. Ubers and car services are available from Colchester, though are more limited on the return home (from Grand Isle to Colchester.) Please consider utilizing the transportation options being provided (see Hilton or Doubletree for more information). Airbnb (or Vacasa or VRBO) are options if you are looking at accommodating more people! If you are considering staying near Burlington you can access the bus transportation we are providing to and from the wedding. If you are considering staying closer to the venue in Grand Isle, be warned transportation will not be provided and car services (like Uber) are limited. This is a great option if you are considering driving yourself to the venue, or have a pre-scheduled car service.

Airbnb

We suggest folks consider flying into Burlington International Airport (BTV) if you are not within driving distance. The airport is 15 minutes from downtown Burlington and it is easy to find transportation to and from BTV. By considering this option and staying locally, you might save and not need to rent a car. Please reach out to Megan if you are having difficulties with transportation or want to talk through your travel plans.

Walk or bike on the Colchester causeway. This three-mile bike path is where Matt and Megan shared their first date and holds a special spot in their hearts. With stunning views of the lake, this is a great option for stretching the legs.

Walk or bike along beautiful Lake Champlain on the eight-mile-long bike path that weaves around parks, beaches, a local skate park, creemee stands (that's soft serve ice cream - Megan's favorite!), hiking trails, and more.

Go visit the Ben &amp; Jerry's Factory in Waterbury for a tour! There is a flavor graveyard where they put old flavors to rest, and you get a free cone at the end of the tour. B&amp;J's is about 30 minutes south of Burlington. There is a Ben &amp; Jerry's store on Church Street in Burlington, if you are looking for a mid-day munch without going to the factory.

A beautiful out-and-back hike that is a personal favorite of Megan's. The hike takes anywhere between an hour and 45 minutes to 3 hours depending on your pace, and has a beautiful 360 degree vista at the top

Considered one of the most impressive collection of artifacts, visual art and other historical items, Shelburne Museum is a great place to spend a few hours if you're looking for a cultured experience! The museum has paintings by Monet, Cassatt, Degas and even the has the Ticonderoga steamboat on display!

Go for a stroll, take a tour of the farm, see how they make cheese, or meet the animals at the petting zoo! The farms offer fantastic views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks! This is a personal favorite of Matt and Megan's.

Go to Foam Brewers for a local beer and a Vermont cheese board. You can watch the sunset from the brewery patio!

Go to Pine Street in Burlington on Saturday from 9:00-2:00pm to grab a bite of local food or to pick up some fresh, delicious produce. There's also an Artist's Market next door.

A creemee is Vermont's version of soft serve ice cream. After taste-testing her way through Vermont's creemee offerings, Megan has given Palmer Lane Maple (PLM) her stamp of approval. Many friends have shared in the PLM experience with her and Matt and can testify that it is worth the visit.

We HIGHLY recommend booking this sailboat excursion if you are interested in seeing Burlington and the surrounding area from Lake Champlain! Hannah, a classmate of Megan's at St. Lawrence owns this sailboat company and hosts sailboat tours around the lake. Matt, Megan and the Doherty family attended a sunset cruise and absloutley loved the experience!
