Location Questions
What is Sunriver Resort?
Sunriver Resort is a 3,300 acre resort community 20 minutes outside of Bend, Oregon. The area includes resort-managed rental properties, privately owned rental properties as well as many permanent residents. Bike paths snake their way around all the homes and properties as well as the Sunriver Village (retail center), Lodge, Marina, SHARC, spas and restaurants - making the area very easy to walk if you're willing to bundle up in the cold!
The community of Sunriver is a certified "Dark Sky Location" therefore due to low light pollution, the star gazing is out of this world and best enjoyed in your hot tub typically provided in the accommodations.
This area offers many outdoor and indoor activities (even in the winter!) including a nature center, observatory, indoor pool, lodge, and shopping area. The Sunriver Village has local restaurants, a brewery, gift shops and art galleries, grocery store, coffee shops and much more!
For more information on the resort and all it offers check out https://www.sunriverresort.com/
How do you get to Sunriver Resort?
Sunriver Resort is about 190 miles southwest of Portland, Oregon. The city of Bend, Oregon is only a 20 minutes drive to the resort. For those guests travelling from outside Oregon, we recommend flying into Redmond Airport/RDM (20 miles south of Bend) and renting a car or getting a taxi/lyft/uber for the 45 minute drive to Sunriver.
Alternatively, you can choose to fly into Portland, Oregon (PDX) and rent a car, but the drive is a 3.5hour drive through the Cascade mountains. It is a gorgeous drive but due to it being winter, we recommend this option to those that have experience driving in the snow. The roads are safe and maintained through the year, but it will be snowing on the mountain and you will need snow tires or chains.
The Redmond Municipal Airport has recently expanded to include flight
offerings/services from American Airlines, Alaska Air, Avelon Airlines, Delta Airlines and United Airlines. For more information, please visit https://flyrdm.com/
Should I rent a car?
Typically during the winter, the highway through the Cascade Mountain passes are covered in snow, so we recommend only renting a car if you have experience driving in these conditions. Residents and visitors of Central Oregon routinely travel by car from all over Oregon and California so the roads are well maintained. That said, the resort is very walk-able and has free transportation options if you are staying in a Sunriver Resorts Housing (see housing information). All activities will have options to coordinate carpooling but we will need to know in advance via the RSVP on this website.
Ubers/lyfts/Taxis are all available from the RDM airport.
Is the resort and wedding venue accessible for guests with limited mobility?
Yes! There are many housing options that are one level if you'd like to rent a house or condo in Sunriver. Please see the "Housing" tab on the website for how to get assistance with housing. The Wedding venue is accessible to those with limited mobilty as well.
What do I need to prep to get to the wedding?
For anyone traveling from outside the United States, please ensure you check your passport expiration date. Typically 8 weeks is required to renew a passport. NOTE - sometimes travel within 6 months of the expiration date on your passport can result in refusal of entry into the United States.
Drinking age is 21 in the United States, so please bring your proof of ID to be able to enter bars and buy alcohol.
Week Timeline Questions
Is the wedding all week?
The wedding day is Friday, Feb 20th, but since many guests will be traveling from across the US and Canada, in order for us to spend quality time with as many people as possible, we have planned fun events starting on Feb 16th. We highly encourage guests to take the whole week to explore Sunriver and Bend - especially anyone who has not had the opportunity to visit the Pacific Northwest! Please see the agenda on the main page of this website for all of the activities planned throughout the week.
What are the plans for the wedding week?
All pre-planned wedding activities are listed on the main page of this website. Each event has an outline of location, attire, time, and details. For some of the events, there will be an option in the RSVP to sign up for more information or "register" for the event. As we get closer to the wedding week, there will be more communications sent out regarding the events. All activities are optional, but some require advanced sign up for pricing and coordination.
More casual gatherings will be happening throughout the week, including some happy hours at different houses or outings around Sunriver (observatory, nature center, etc.) We will be announcing those during the week.
Are children allowed to come?
Central Oregon is a great place to visit for families and there are endless things to do for all ages - however for the day of the wedding, we ask that no children are present for the ceremony and reception. We do understand some parents are unable to take a week away from their children, so all other activities during the week are available for kids to join.
Sunriver Resort is very child friendly - there are many different activities available. A few popular options during the winter include: visiting the indoor pool, the Sunriver Observatory, and the Nature Center. Go to https://www.sunriverresort.com/ to learn more.
Wedding Day Questions
What is the wedding dress code?
For the wedding ceremony and reception, the dress code is formal/black tie optional. This means please avoid jeans, shorts, and T-shirts. We would prefer for dresses to be tea-length or long dresses. It will be the winter time and while the wedding ceremony and reception will be indoors, we recommend bringing a heavy jacket in case you want to step outside. The cocktail hour and reception will have an outdoor section with fire pits.
Please note the bridal party will be in dark green velvet dresses, so please try to avoid that color and material as a guest.
Are Megan or Jono changing their last name?
Yes! Megan will legally change her name to "Thorpe" after the wedding day. If you would like to give something to the bride and groom with their names on it, "Thorpe" will be their shared last name.
Are Megan and Jono going on a honeymoon?
Yes! Sharing their love for wine and having the memories of getting engaged in Barolo (a wine region in Italy), Megan and Jono will be leaving shortly after the wedding to drive down to California Wine Country. There is an option on the registry page to give to the honeymoon fund as well as some activities they've selected that guests can gift money towards. If you have experience in the California wine country and would like to share that with the couple, please send an email Jono.Megan.Wedding@gmail.com with any suggestions!
Do Jono and Megan have a registry?
Yes! Jono and Megan are registered at Crate and Barrel Canada. They have hand picked each item and are excited to start their new chapter together with items chosen by both of them. Please find the registry at: https://www.crateandbarrel.ca/gift-registry/megan-mueller-and-jono-thorpe/r7000321
When will the RSVPs be sent out?
You will be able to RSVP in early 2025 by clicking the RSVP tab on this website. In the RSVP, guests will be able to sign up for certain activities as well as ask for help setting up housing. RSVPs will be requested to be filled out by December 1st, 2025, but you will be able to change your RSVP until that deadline if your plans change.
What if I don't know if I can attend all the events, but will definitely make the wedding?
That is totally fine! We would request that you RSVP "yes" to the wedding day (and any other events you know you will attend) and "no" to anything you are unsure about. If you decide you are able to attend, then you can change your RSVP response in the same tab on this website.
Do I get a plus one to the wedding day?
Please refer to the invite that was emailed to you in early 2025 for the names of the guests invited to the wedding. While we would love to have everyone bring a plus one, the venue is limited and only those listed in the invite email will be able to attend the wedding ceremony and reception.
