Our Wedding

Every story is one sided, so here is my side of the story. Me and Dylan met on Tinder, which seems both like yesterday and many lifetimes ago. We started things off with a little spice. Dylan was working two weeks on, two weeks off doing avalanche control at a mine just north of Smithers, which is where I was living. We had met on FaceTime a few times and decided to meet the day before he went out to camp, and if things went well, I would spend the next two weeks tour guiding him around the north. Because I was commuting an hour too and from work at the time, we knew Dylan would arrive to Cabin in the Woods before I would make it home from work. He offered to make me dinner and have it waiting when I returned home. Seemed pretty great to me. The only glitch was forgetting the spare key was missing and Dylan would have to climb through a back window and over my bed before start a fire and getting to cooking. On my drive home from work, I remember being so excited. Dinner was being made for me, and a handsome man was warming the cabin for my arrival. I wasn't letting my brain drift into the what can go wrong territory until I rounded the corner down my drive way and saw a HONDA ELEMENT sitting in my drive way. It felt like red flags were hitting me in the face. What kind of mountain man drives a Honda Element. The red flags quickly disappeared as I was greeted by the most handsome man in his olive green

Dylan's side of the Story

Leaving me locked out of the cabin was just a minor hickup but made for a funny opening to our first date. Still, what I remember most was Michelles first embrace. She was just walking down from the driveway and I out from the cabin and my mind raced a little bit. We had hit it off chatting over the past weeks but I was nervous for the first impression and wasn't sure how I wanted to greet her. Michelle made it easy by immediately coming in for a big hug. Maybe it sounds silly but it left an impression on me and I immediately felt a connection that has only grown since.

We will be booking the Hamlet (four separate five star chalets) that host 50 guests from September 10-17 (2025). Our hopes are to fill the chalets for the week with our friends and family. Unfortunately it is only available for weekly bookings, but fortunately the price is similar to a two/three night stay anywhere else in the valley. The cost will be around 400 euros for the week per person (depending on the type of room you get - let us know if you want a cheaper or fancier option). Kids will be 150 euros for a single bed. Each room has a private bathroom and each chalet has its own kitchen and hottub. Some group meals will be planned throughout the stay, but people are also free to buy their own groceries and make their own meals. Meals can also be provided on request with advanced notice for a fee. There is a communal pool, spa, movie room, gym and eating area. The venue is in a beautiful and safe community (with the best bakery in the valley) and is a couple minute walk from the train. Argentiere is a 10-15 minute train ride to Chamonix and the valley is filled with amazing things to do and see! We are fired up! The nearest airport is Genève Aéroport located in Geneva, Switzerland. It is an hour drive to Les Rives D'argentiere (the Chalets). We can arrange private transportation through the accommodation for a fee, or we can arrange transportation via bus and train. It is very straight forward and I'm sure lots of people will be arriving at/near the same time.

How to get to Argentiere

The local train provides a very convenient connection between Les Rives and the rest of the valley and the bus is a good option for certain trips. Everyone gets a train pass at check in. It covers the rail line between Les Houches and Vallorcine so you'll only have to pay if you decide to take it further, e.g. St Gervais or Martigney

Staples such as pastries, coffee, and pizza can be found for excellent prices. We find plate meals cost less than eating out in Canada but again, prices are in €

Travel

Make your way up the Aiguille du Midi. It is a sight to see! There is a mountain top Museum, endless caves and viewing spots, and if you want to get really touristy there is a glass floor room that pops out of the cliff over the glacier! At the half way mark up the tram there is a stop with potentially the worlds best blueberry pie (thanks Wex for sharing this with us and making it a tradition to stop and indulge!) and endless hiking including a short walk to a little blue lake. The sights will blow your mind.. guaranteed. One of my favourite things is watching all of the incredible mountain people climb, ski and fly off the peaks and glaciers

A day on the town. If you like shopping, indulging in sweet treats, eating delicious food, the hustle and bustle of the market (Saturday morning), or simply people watching/discovering a beautiful town, then it is worth it to take the train into Chamonix and spend some time in the city

Mer de Glace et train du MontenversTake a train up the mountain to a beautiful view point of Mer de Glace. There is a museum at the top and many hiking trails as well as a hotel with a cute restaurant. If you're feeling it you can take a gondola down to the glacier and check out the ice cave.

The thermal pools in the Chamonix Valley are so lovely! Perhaps day after the wedding chill by the pool?

Another great spa option right next to the Via Ferrata. If you would rather spa then climb this would be a good option. Travel down to Saitn Gervais with the Via Ferrata group and hit up the thermals instead! or take the train from Saint Gervais up the mountain to Refuge du Nid d'Aigle

An incredible trip above the crevasses and ice falls from France to Italy! Panoramic Mont-Blanc is a cable car that runs from Aiguille du Midi, France to Pointe Helbronner, Italy. This 5-km one-way journey takes about 30 minutes. Groups of 3 small&nbsp;gondolas&nbsp;travel together, each one holding a maximum of four people. From the other side of the gondola the Skyway Monte Bianco cable car goes down to Entrèves where you can walk the town or take a short bus to the neighbouring town of Courmayeur. It is so beautiful and such a different vibe on this side of the mountains. The Italian food alone is worth the trip, and the town has plenty of shops, restaurants, beautiful parks and outrageous views. We highly recommend this trip. The trip takes approximately two hours with all of the cable cars and gondolas which gives limited time to tour about the towns. If you want a longer time to explore we recommend taking the lifts one way and then taking the bus back to Chamonix via the tunnel that goes through the mountain!

Panoramic Gondola from France to Italy 

Jump on the train or bus from Argentiere to Le Tour (one stop). Once at the resort you will need to take the Charamillon gondola and the Col de Balme chairlift (38 euros). You can then follow one of the summer trails to the Albert 1er. The hike will take approximately 2hr in the summer. It is a beautifully maintained trail that is rated as easy. If you want very little elevation gain you can do half of the trail with the same beautiful views. You can stay at the refuge or indulge in a meal, snack or beverage. High reward for little walking!

Hike to Refuge Albert 1er

Take the train up the mountain to Refuge du Nid d'Agle at the foot of the Bionnassay glacier. The train leaves out of Saint Gervais - the same spot as the thermals and the via ferrata. Both at the Refuge du Nid d'Agle and at the Hotel half way up the train - you can stop for snacks, coffee, or find a nice place for a picnic. From the hotel you can walk a short distance to the gondola which will take you down to Les Houches where you can catch the train back to Argentiere if you please. Or head back down to Saint Gervais to rejoin the group. So many options!
