Built during the Iron Age, Edinburgh Castle is the most besieged place in Britain. It was a royal residence, military fortress and prison, and now: a World Heritage site.
The castle opens at 9:30am and the last entry is at 5:00pm. We recommend at least 90 minutes to see the main attractions.
You need to book tickets and your entry in advance: we suggest doing this ahead of your visit to ensure it does not sell out!
Arthur's Seat is an extinct volcano surrounded by Holyrood Park. It's a wonderful walk and hike to the peak, and not far from city center.
There are amazing vistas from the top of the hill, a little over 800 ft / 250 meters of elevation. But note that it can be very windy once you reach the peak!
We thought about using the National Museum of Scotland as the venue for our wedding before settling on The Caves!
This is one of our favorite museums and is conveniently located in central Old Town. You'll be even be able to see Dolly the Sheep. Another plus: the museum has free entry.
Although a little gimmicky, we recommend this for folks visiting for the first time. It is a great way to learn about scotch and the end of the tour features a full tasting. The experience is also located on the Royal Mile, close to Edinburgh Castle - it's close to many of the central attractions in city center.
