Our Favorite Restaurants

Below is a list of all our favorite food spots in La Ventana. The food here is fantastic, and there are great options for all price ranges. All of the locations can be easily found by putting the name into Google Maps. Note that the businesses and restaurants change frequently in La Ventana, so there are always new great places to try.

Breakfast/Coffee

- La Panaderia/Mextli’s Gluten Lab: This is Paige’s favorite pastry spot in La Ventana. They have fantastic bakery of all sorts (pastries, bread, cake)! However, they sell out very quickly, so get there early. Often, there is a new batch of croissants around 9:00 AM. You can also order bakery for pick up the following day if you plan ahead.

- Café Bar KM-0: This is a great place for coffee and omelets/pancakes etc. This place is next door to La Panaderia, so you can get coffee here and pastries there.

- Polvora: This is Paige’s favorite overall breakfast spot in La Ventana. It is set back in the cactus forest and has a cool vibe! They have unique dishes cooked in a wood fire oven. This is where the Welcome Event will take place.

- Kijote Craft Coffee: This is a great place for coffee and pastries. They also sometimes have a person making crepes. They are one of the few coffee shops that have water views.

- Silvestre Coffee: This is a coffee and pastry spot that also has an associated art gallery.

- Booster House: This is one of the few coffee places up on the hill. Shane loves the breakfast sandwiches here.

- La Moringa: If you are looking for a more upscale breakfast, this place is for you. It is located right at Casa Tara, which is a typical morning yoga spot, so you can grab some food right after a morning session.

Lunch

- All of the taco trucks on the roadside are very good lunch options.

- Coyas Beach Bar: This is located at Ventana Wind Sports. The bar is wind sheltered and right on the beach. They have great drinks and good snacks/lunch food.

- Playa Central: This is a great place to have lunch on the rooftop and watch the kiters on a windy day.

Dinner

- Polvora: This is Paige’s and Shane’s favorite dinner spot in La Ventana. It is set back in the cactus forest and has a cool vibe! They have the best wood fire pizzas we have ever had, and you cannot miss ordering any dish on their menu. This is where the Welcome Event will take place.

- Mariscos El Cone: This is one of our favorite places for dinner. The highly recommended dish is alfredo with shrimp. This restaurant is CASH ONLY.

- Las Palmas: This location has a great water view and good food.

- La Tuna: This bar is located right on the beach, has fantastic tacos, and often has live music.

Grocery

- Oscaritos Grocery: There are limited options for grocery in La Ventana, so if you need a large amount of food or drink we would recommend loading up before leaving Cabo. However, if you need to pick up a few essentials, this store should do the trick.

Optional Wedding Activities That We Love in La Ventana

Please feel free to ask us any questions about activities you may want to do, as we obviously love this place and want to share the best parts with everyone. It is best to ask questions ahead of time so we can assist in coordinating, as we may be less responsive on the days directly leading up to the wedding😊

Popular Morning Activities: Morning is the best time for activities requiring flat water/low wind. Workout classes are also popular morning activities in La Ventana.

Yoga

- Location: Casa Tara has the best view, but there are lots of other potential location options for Yoga in La Ventana. You can find Casa Tara using Google Maps.

- Schedule: Typically, the sessions run Monday - Saturday between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM, but you will need to confirm the exact schedule upon your arrival by Googling “Casa Tara Yoga Schedule.”

- Price: Typically 13 USD per person per class.

- Other notes: Mats are provided, and the classes welcome all experience levels.

Paddleboarding

- Location: You can rent paddle boards at many different resorts in La Ventana, but Ventana Wind Sports is one easy place to rent. You can find this location using Google Maps.

- Schedule: You can paddle board any time there is minimal wind and waves.

- Price: Typically 20 USD for 2 hours or 50 USD for the day.

- Other notes: You certainly need to do this when it is not windy. If it is windy, you will have more difficulty doing the actual sport, but you will also be at risk of being hit by kiteboarders. You can also do this activity during the day time (rather than morning), if there is little to no wind.

Popular Daytime Activities IN La Ventana: These are all great daytime activities if you want to stay right in La Ventana.

Kiteboarding (watch or take a lesson)

- Location: You will see kiteboarders all around La Ventana. There are also typically wingers, windsurfers, and foilers. The easiest place to get a lesson is at Playa Central. If you are more inclined to watch the kiteboarders, rather than participate, grab a drink on the rooftop at Playa Central.

- Schedule: You can watch or get a lesson any time it is windy, which is typically 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM about four days per week. You would have to ask around or look at the local wind forecast if you want to plan a windy day ahead of time.

- Price: Lessons vary in price; you can ask any instructor at Playa Central for specifics on price. The cost of watching depends on how many margaritas you want to have 😊

Snorkeling

- Location: You can snorkel right off the beach in front of the resorts in La Ventana. However, if you want a truly amazing experience, you should take a boat out to Isla Cerralvo and snorkel off the reefs. The boats leave each morning from the launch at Playa Central, which can be found on Google Maps.

- Schedule: You can snorkel off the beach any morning, when the wind is minimal and kiters are not out. However, the ideal time to snorkel is mid-day on a non-windy day because that is when the sun is highest and water visibility is best. Remember, it is difficult for kiters to see and avoid snorkelers, so if kiters are out, you should not go out snorkeling. If you do want to take a boat tour to Isla Cerralvo, you should WhatsApp Armando at 526121050588. He typically takes a group of people out every morning. You can jump into an existing group or go on a private tour of 5 – 10 people.

- Price: It is free to go snorkeling off the beach. It is typically around 70 USD per person to do the off boat snorkeling, but it depends on if you have a group going all together or are joining another group.

- Other notes: If you plan on doing a lot of snorkeling, bring your own snorkel gear. If you plan on trying just once or twice, you are able to rent gear from most resorts. Baby shampoo works as a great mask defogger. The snorkeling boat tours are also a great way to see dolphins and breaching whales, if you are lucky.

Deep Sea Fishing

- Location: You can go deep sea fishing on a boat departing from Playa Central in La Ventana.

Schedule: The boats typically leave around 7:00 AM and the trip will last 4 to 5 hours. I have had good experiences in the past with Captain Armando. He also speaks very good English. You can set up a trip with him by sending a WhatsApp message to 526121050588.

- Price: The price is typically around 5000 pesos for 4 – 5 hours on a private boat. Often they can accommodate 1 – 4 people, all based off of your preference. Therefore, if you find a group that wants to go, the price will be significantly cheaper.

- Other notes: If you have not gone deep sea fishing before, this can be a bit of a shock. The captains are very knowledgeable and friendly, and you do not need any prior fishing experience to do the trip. The captain will easily adjust to your needs. Note that it is difficult to catch and release most sea fish, and often the captain wants to keep the fish for eating themselves. Therefore, pretty much everything you catch will be kept. This involves gaffing and clubbing the fish (which the captain will do), so you should not wear clothes that cannot get blood on them. It can be cold in the morning, so warm clothes are also recommended. Make sure you bring water. If the ocean gets rough during the later hours of the trip, some people may become seasick. At the end of the trip, you can ask to have one of your fish fillets if you want to cook it and enjoy it yourself. Otherwise, the captain will typically keep the fish for himself or sell it to the local restaurants.

Hot Springs

- Location: You can find this location by typing “Hot Springs” into Google Maps. It is located on the far north side of the La Ventana beach. You should be able to drive all the way to the location.

- Schedule: You need to try to time your visit with mid-tide. This tide timing allows the hot springs to not be completely underwater, but also have enough ocean water mixing with the hot water that the springs are not scalding hot. You can look up the tides by Googling “La Ventana Tideschart.”

- Price: Free

- Other notes: The hot springs can get very hot, so be careful. There are typically some hot springs that are already dug out and have rocks outlining them. However, it can also be fun to bring a shovel if you want to dig out your own area. For extra fun, bring some beers and a speaker.

Hike Through the Catus Forest to the Punta Gorda

- Location: You can find the trail location on All Trails with the title “Punta Gorda.”

- Schedule: You can go any time, but the trail has minimal shade, so it can be nice during the morning or on a high cloud cover/cooler day.

- Price: Free

- Other notes: There is a private property sign near the trail entry, but if you walk to the actual trail head (if you are coming in the typical route the trail head will be to your left) there is another sign stating the owners allow people on the trail aka it is fine to hike the trail. The trail is 7.1 kilometers round trip, and it is designed as an out and back trek. Make sure you bring sunscreen and water, as the trail has minimal shade and can get very hot. We have never seen poisonous snakes on this trail, but apparently it does happen, so keep your eyes and ears open and watch your step. The end of the trail opens into the Punta Gorda beach, which has excellent snorkeling on a calm day, so feel free to bring your snorkel gear. You may even see breaching whales if you are lucky.

Massage

- Location: The massage therapists in La Ventana will typically come right to your apartment or hotel. You can have them do your massage in your room or on your deck. They will come with a massage table, music, etc that they will set up at your preferred location.

- Schedule: You can get your massage any time. We have gotten them as early as 7:30 AM and as late as 8:00 PM, so feel free to request a time you prefer. To coordinate you should reach out to Rocio: 526121589441 via WhatsApp.

- Price: Typically around 70 USD for one hour.

Spa

- Location: There are many different spas in La Ventana. Spa Verde or Casa Tara are the locations we have used in the past. You can find these locations on Google Maps.

Schedule: You can walk to these locations and book a treatment any time.

- Price: Price can vary based off treatment and location.

Popular Daytime Activities NEAR La Ventana: These are all great daytime activities if you have a car and a half-day to a day to spare.

Snorkel at Cabo Plumo National Park

- Location: This is a full-blown National Park, with lots of options for snorkeling tours. However, we would recommend Cabo Plumo Sport Center. You can find the location by putting it in Google Maps.

- Schedule: You should reach out to Cabo Plumo Sports Center by sending a WhatsApp message to 1526241579795. Typically tours leave at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM and last two hours at a time.

- Price: Typically around 75 USD per person.

- Other notes: You will loose service on the road to this location. Therefore, it is important to load up the location prior to departing and not mess it up on the way there. The last 30 minutes (about 7 miles or so) is very rough dirt road; however, it can be done in a small car slowly. You should leave plenty early. If you do end up arriving early, there are some restaurants that have great breakfast. If you decide to do the 9:00 AM tour, the first part of your drive will likely be in the dark. Please make sure you are driving slow, watching for pot holes, and watching for cows on the road. The trip itself is about 2 hours total and will take you to 3 or 4 snorkeling spots, where you will jump from the boat and enjoy the reefs. Depending on how many people are in your party, you may be on a boat with a few other people (typically 3 -6 total people). If it is windy or wavy that day, there is a risk of sea sickness. If you have extra time on your trip home,

Los Barriles is a nice place to stop for dinner. Lazy Daze is a Shane and Paige favorite and typically has good food, strong drinks, live music, beach view, and all good vibes!

Visit the Lighthouse and Possibly Snorkel Nearby

- Location: You can find the lighthouse by navigating to “Playa Punta Arena.” The best snorkeling in the area is also close by at Cueva del Leon. You can do them in a single day trip if you would like. To find the snorkel spot you can navigate to “Cueva del Leon” in Google Maps. Make sure to load both locations before heading out because you will loose service.

- Schedule: This is best done in low wind with high sun, so midday on a non-windy day.

- Price: Free

- Other notes: There are several people monitoring out by the lighthouse. They are just keeping track of folks and will not stop you. When traveling to Cueva del Leon, you will encounter a fork in the road. The right side is blocked with a gait and monitored by a local. You need to tell them you are wanting to snorkel/go to the beach, and they will let you through the gate. There should not be a charge of any sort.

Surf or Visit Los Cerritos and Hotel California

- Location: This beach is about 1 hour and 30 minutes, one direction, from La Ventana. You can find it by putting “Cerritos Beach” into Google Maps.

- Schedule: You can do this trip any time, but will need at least half a day.

- Cost: It is free to use the beach, but sometimes there is a small charge for palapas or beach chairs.

- Other Notes: This is a great beach for surfing and you can rent a board anywhere on the beach. This is also a great place to get a beach side massage. You can often bargain with the masseuse, and at some times we have gotten them to do a one hour massage for as low as 25 USD. There are also beach side drinks at this location. Lastly, this is supposedly the location of Hotel California, which you will see on the right side of the beach if looking out toward the ocean (it is the yellow building). Sadly, it has been closed for about 2 years, but still very cool to see.
