This should just be a National Park, but whatever. Tons of hiking trails, and of course, the Dune Climb. Pro tip: Pyramid Point is the favorite hike of The Bride and The Groom in the park.
The tip of the smaller peninsula in the area. A beautiful spot for a walk, with a scenic drive through rolling hills and majestic farmland.
The tip of the larger peninsula. Another beautiful spot to catch a sunset and see some crystal blue water.
Beautiful hiking for the outdoorsy. One of dozens of places in the area to get out and get some fresh air with scenic views, so be sure to check out trail maps of the area for other suggestions.
Mari Vineyards is the highlight on this trail. Their Bestial Ramato is a funky, wild skin-contact orange wine that we love.
Excellent sparkling wine.
A former asylum that has been renovated with shopping (check out Moonstruck Gardens), quality restaurants and pretty grounds to walk around. Lots of history worth exploring just outside of the main drag.
Great bookstore in town where Matthew Modine held the door open for The Bride once as she was walking in.
A local jam and preserve maker with shops in a few towns around the Grand Traverse Bay region. Take home a delicious souvenir, and make sure one of them is their Maple Cream.
One of the last weekends of the year for farmers markets in the area. Enjoy the amazing Michigan produce and stock up on delicious things to cook at home. Seriously, you'll never be able to enjoy a Chicago farmer's market again after one of these.
Stop and get cider and donuts from the very farmers who are hosting the wedding on their property. If you're not from Michigan, scope out a proper cider mill - there's nothing like 'em in the Fall.
An amazing small museum, focused on Native American art throughout history. Quiet and thoughtfully curated, this is one of the best things to do while in the area by far.
Into weird, niche museums? Love music as much as The Bride and The Groom? Interested in seeing a Wurlitzer and a Belgian organ in an old farm building? Then this one's for you...
An alpaca farm with a couple chickens and one lonely llama. Book an appointment to hang with them all. Could be great, could be insanity - godspeed.
Tour the area on a bike that is somehow also on out-of-commission train tracks.
Boat tours are few and far between by October, but this one goes through the end of the month and even offers sunset cruises to see Grand Traverse Bay at dusk from the water.
