How We Met: REMIX!

Andrew and Ryan met playing Stonewall kickball in April 2017, when they were randomly assigned to play on the same team. Andrew joined Ryan's team the following season, where they continued to catch balls... and feelings.

A Dog and A Fish(town)

Feelings gave way to dating, which gave way to starting a life together. In November 2019, they rescued quite possibly the best dog in the entire world, Penny. Then, a few months later, they purchased a home together in Fishtown, Philadelphia.

A Birthday in SMA

Andrew had wanted to visit San Miguel de Allende ever since it was featured in a Top Chef season finale. So, for his 40th birthday, Ryan planned a trip to SMA. The two fell absolutely in love with the charming city and vowed to return some point soon.

Saying "Oui" in Paris

In October 2022, Andrew and Ryan took a fairly spontaneous trip to the City of Love. Though the croissants, Van Goghs, and champagne were all magnifique, they both agree on the real highlight - when Ryan proposed to Andrew in front of the Eiffel Tower.

Our Story

We realize everyone has traveled far to attend our wedding, so we want to include everyone in group photos on the wedding day! Though not required, we would encourage guests to coordinate their outfits with the color palette provided here - think warm jewel tones that are inspired by the city and streets of San Miguel!(Andrew and I will be wearing mid-green suits.)

Passport

You need to have a valid passport in order to travel to Mexico. While some countries require that your passport is valid for 6 months beyond the date of your travel, this is not the case with Mexico. As long as your passport is valid for the duration of your trip, you should be OK. Just confirm with your airline when you book your flights - if they are OK with your passport, then Mexico will be, too.

Where to Stay

SMA is a very safe city. Things to note geographically are that the more north and west you go of Zona Centro, the more local and less touristy it becomes. Also, there are plenty of beautiful properties to stay at east of Zona Centro. Just note that accessing these properties may include many steps and steep inclines!

This map shows where our welcome party (Casa San Jose, purple X) and wedding (Terraza Trinitate, pink X) are located. Properties within the yellow circle would all be within a 10-15 minute walk from each!

There are many small boutique hotels in SMA and a few larger resorts, ranging in price from moderate to expensive. Linked below are just a few that came recommended to us by our wedding planner or that we found during our research.

<a href="https://clandestinohotel.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Clandestino Hotel</a>This hotel has 2 locations - Recreo and Pila Seca. Both are nice, but Recreo will be a quieter stay, as Pila Seca is on a busier street.

Airbnbs/Casas

Getting a house to share with a small group of people will be a wonderful experience. Many gorgeous properties exist in Zona Centro (and nearby neighborhoods), some offering breathtaking balcony views, small pools, or even breakfast and housekeeping on-site. Here are a list of just some of the many properties available to rent in SMA. Keep in mind, many will have a minimum night stay requirement.

Mercado de ArtesaniasAn artisan market filled with homemade goods, trinkets, food, and flowers.

<a href="https://terrazatrinitate.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Terraza Trinitate</a>In addition to being our wedding venue, Terraza Trinitate is a pottery store filled with handcrafted household decorations, planters, and more!

Restaurants

Chocolates y Churros San AgustinThe BEST churros we've ever had. You can get them stuffed (we highly recommend the churros rellenos con Lechera) or plain, with a warm Mexican hot chocolate.

The Rooftop at SelinaAnother rooftop bar/restaurant with amazing views, located right next door to Quince.

Both locations often have live music, and the terraza location offers amazing views of SMA!If you go, you MUST try a molcajete!! We got the mixto and it might have been the best thing we ate during our last visit!

Spend an afternoon relaxing there, in water that reaches up to 104 degrees.

During our first trip to SMA in 2022, we went to Rancho Xotolar for a really wonderful excursion. They took us horseback riding down a canyon and cooked a delicious lunch for us afterwards!

Registry

We understand that logistics for destination weddings can be difficult, so if you are planning to attend, we would like to make arranging rides, lodging, etc. as easy as possible. Though we recognize situations may change as the date gets closer, we would love to know your intentions on attending by April 30th, 2024. Official RSVPs and menu selections will be sent out over the summer. We will also be having a post-wedding celebration in Florida later in January of 2025 for those unable to travel to Mexico.
