If this is your first time in NYC, leave your fear of heights at home. One Vanderbilt has a host of ticketing options, but almost all offer incredible views of the city. This is also near our venue, by Grand Central Station. Reservations recommended (link below).
As much as we hate Times Square, Broadway cannot be beat. We are particularly musical fans (Aladdin, Hadestown, Hamilton, the list goes on...), but there is something for everyone. We especially recommend the TKTS booths (link below) for discounted, day-of seats.
While we tried to plan around it, NYCC is October 12-15th! If you plan to attend, please note tickets go on sale far in advance.
New York Comic Con is dedicated to comics (d'oh), anime, manga, film and TV media, and generally all good nerdy things. Pre-pandemic, the con would regularly draw 200,000 fans—enjoy the cosplayers you'll see all weekend! Get details below:
Take a break perusing Kinokuniya Books, right by Bryant Park. Kinokuniya specializes in Japanese products, books, manga, and anime. We’ve spent many, many, many hours here and at their cute café upstairs.
The New York Film Festival usually runs from the end of September to mid-October, we'll update with events closer to the day! One of our first few dates was watching Ava DuVernay's documentary, "13th," at the NYFF, and we always love a movie night.
Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is a beautiful stroll, especially early in the morning or near sunset. If you are staying in Manhattan, we would recommend walking into Brooklyn over it and staying in DUMBO [the neighborhood there] for lunch or dinner. A few suggestions: there's the Time Out market ($), Grimaldi's Pizzeria ($), Celestine ($$) and The River Café ($$$$) on the waterfront, and plenty of coffee shops. Then hop the ferry back to Manhattan!
There are UrbanSpace food courts all over the city, but if you are staying at The Yale Club, this one is less than a five minute walk (also convenient for folks staying in Midtown). Very casual, with a wide variety (20+) of vendors, perfect if you are feeling jetlagged. Note: they do close at 8pm!
If you are looking for a relaxing afternoon, hop into any of the Alice's Tea Cup locations. Sam and her bridesmaids have spent innumerable tea times here and recommend the curry chicken salad, pumpkin scone, Indian chai, and they offer dozens of teas.
Staying in Brooklyn? Go check out some of our old haunts! Syndicated is a bar and movie theatre with cheap tickets ($9!) and they serve food/drink during the movies.
If you're doing a Brooklyn tour, Roberta's was our former Bushwick neighbor, and they have multiple locations throughout the city (including UrbanSpace Vanderbilt, listed above). We've ordered many a pizza over the years, our favorite is the Bee Sting!
Much like Urbanspace, Urban Hawker offers a wide variety of vendors, this time centered around Singaporean cuisine! Great for a late-night bite (they're open until 10pm most days) and has something for everyone, whether you're craving dim sum, baked sweets, or boba.
As if you needed one more food hall, check out the brain child of Spanish chef José Andrés! Whenever we miss Spain (we got engaged in Barcelona), this is a solid option. If you are looking for something a little more upscale, Andrés also runs the restaurant Zaytinya (reservations recommended).
Can't make it to Paris? We've got sweets covered with Angelina, right off of Bryant Park and Kinokuniya Books. The chocolat chaud is rich and highly recommended, as are their teas and Trocadéro.
