Spend your July 4th weekend a little differently in 2025—come celebrate with us in one of the most beautiful mountain towns in the world! Whether you come for the weekend or stay longer to go on excursions with us, we would love to have you at our wedding.
Chamonix is a ski village in southeastern France on the border of Italy and Switzerland. Right in town is the tallest mountain in western Europe, Monc Blanc, clocking in at 15,766 feet, a staggering difference from the vallery floor at 3,396 feet.
Chamonix is a very special place to us. In summer 2022, we spent about five weeks exploring Chamonix, including running around Mont Blanc while staying in mountainside chalets and watching the finish of the UTMB trail races. We also got engaged there in March of this year, after which Colin raced Pierra Menta, a four-day ski mountainneering stage race near Chamonix.
As the birthplace of mountainneering, Chamonix is the home of major trail running events like UTMB and the site of the first Winter Olympics in 1924. It's awesome for many sports, including skiing, trail running, and backpacking.
But there are low-octane activities, too. We like to slow it down and sample Haute-Savoie cheeses, eat at the Michelin star restaurants, and live the cafe life (sit on a patio with a cappuccino and a croissant). And don't worry, there's no need to run 15 miles to get into the mountains—Europe is full of vehicles! Take a cable car up to Mont Blanc. Take a bus under Mont Blanc into Italy, eat lunch, and come back. Take an adorable little red train to the glacier. And take a car to the many villages and sights in France and beyond!
La Bergerie de Planpraz is a restaurant and terrace located at the top of the Brevent cable car in Chamonix. In the winter you can ski in and grab lunch here; in the summer you can watch the sun set over the mountains as you dine on the terrace. We got the chance to ski in and eat here this winter. The food was top-notch!
Underneath the cable car is a famous running trail called the Vertical Kilometer (the VK). Colin wants to run to the top but I'd rather he not be so sweaty right before putting on wedding attire—what do you think?
